My Dad just called a bit ago, and gave me some updates on my aunts. These are Dad's older sisters. He is one of five children, and these are the only ones still living. Aunt Mary is 87, and has leukemia. In her regular check up last week, they found a growth they were almost certain was colon cancer. The results came back today, and they were conclusive this time...it is cancer. They are trying to decide what to do next.
My other aunt, Aunt Ginny, is 84, and is the closest in age to my Dad, who is the "baby." She has been struggling with getting her blood sugar under control. He told me that it is consistently over 500, and they can't seem to figure out why. She also has diabetic neuropathy in her legs, and right now is barely able to walk. This is the aunt I may stay with for awhile when she leaves the nursing home.
You have to know Dad's family to realize that even though they are up in years, this is still a shock to all of us, because they all have had the health of people 20-30 years younger than their age. For example, Dad walks at least 4 miles a day, and works yet. To look at him or my Aunt Mary, you would never guess that they were in their 80's. My Aunt Ginny is showing her age a bit more, but still doesn't seem to be anywhere near her 84 years.
It seems like just yesterday they were all 3 just fine and dandy, and I was expecting them all to live to be 100 and be with me "forever." I wrote a post about a visit BJ and I had with all three of them when my oldest aunt came up to visit this fall. If you are interested in reading it, you can click here.
Please pray for each of them. They all know the Lord, and I know that when I do lose them here on this earth, I will see them again. But in the meantime, I am selfish enough to want them here as long as possible! Mostly, I don't want to see them suffer the way my mother suffered with her cancer. It was a horrible way to have to die, and I don't want to see that happen to anyone else that I love so very much.
