And the Winner Is........
Posted in Interesting Blog Tid-Bits
ME!!! Can you believe it? What fun!
Here is the link to the announcement. http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/HSBCompanyBlog/37805/
And here is the picture that you will see on the announcement page. Let me introduce you to everyone.

The little cutie on my lap is my granddaughter Nova; my son Joshua is on the left, and BJ is on the right; daughter Jennifer is on the left beside my husband Mike; daughter Chelle is on the right beside Mike. In the back are my daughter-in-law Katie (Joshua's wife), and sons-in-law Doug (Jen's husband) and Joshua (Chelle's husband). That lady in the middle of the bunch is me.
When Anissa suggested that I start blogging, I thought that it might be a fun thing to do, and also help me to connect with other homeschoolers, which is a good thing to do if you are in a hs'ing business. But then a couple days later, I read about this writing contest.
Now that was a challenge! I LOVE contests, especially if it involves writing. I used to do these kind of things in high school, and a few times since, and always won. But I have never had much time for it as an adult. Then I thought, why not give this competition a try. And I already had the perfect story for it forming in the back of my mind.
Last week Spunky wrote and told me that I had been chosen a winner in the Inspirational category. That was special, because I felt that BJ's story was truly inspirational to other homeschoolers who are trying to decide just what is of real importance and what is not in their child's education. It shows that we learn best through real life experiences, even the tough ones if we don't shelter our children from them.
When she emailed me last night to tell me I had won the overall competition, I was so excited that I must admit this middle-aged granny began to run around the house screaming "I won! I won! I can't believe I won!" LOL My poor BJ was outside working on something, and came running in, thinking his poor old mom had totally lost her last marble. (He had forgotten that I still have my last marble in my wallet...another story for another day)
Anyway, I want to thank everyone who has had anything to do with convincing me to continue my writing. A special thank you to Anissa for convincing me to blog, and all who voted for my entry.
And the biggest thank you of all goes to one special young man, who was the inspiration for my entry. I love you, BJ!

This is such a wonderful story. I know that it touched my heart and I'm sure many other people too. Isn't it wonderful how God puts things together at just the right time to remind us of some of our dreams/interests back in our younger days? I know that writing has definitely stirred something that God placed within me as a child and I'm so glad that He has awakened that part of me again. You have a beautiful family. Congratulations again!!

What a beautiful and inspirational story! It really touched me as we are entering a season in our lives where we may need to help care for aging grandparents. And I need your words to help me realize that this is why we have chosen to homeschool our children, so we can be there for our family when we need to be there!
Have a blessed day! Tami

Dear Kathy,
Your writing makes me think of the Psalm 45:1"My heart overflows with a good theme; I address my verses to the King; My tongue is like the pen of a ready writer." Psalm 45:1. I am so thrilled that the Lord used you in this way. What a testimony proving once again that the best lessons are taught in God's classroom. Thank you for entering the contest and keep writing!

yes, the best and most meaningful lessons are the ones learned through life itself, or death---which is just part of the arrangement. Your story was so good, and thanks for sharing it! Keep writing :) Will be looking for more inspiration and truth from your experiences,
Blessings, and congrats!

Tuesday, November 1, 2005 - Still crying here in KY....

:) Your story was beautiful and a deserving winner! You put into words exactly what my husband and I want for our 3 girls - to really know what is important in life. We talk a lot about how we want them to truly develop a walk with the Lord, a concern for others and a realization that the world is bigger than themselves. Education is necessary and good but matters of a biblical worldview are so much more important. I am sure that your grown children are wonderful, caring people and so much better for the experiences that mama helped them through when they were younger. Your story touched me...now to stop crying before someone asks what's wrong! lol
