I found these questions on MamaBugs site, and thought it would be fun to answer them. The only problem is, there is no number 8! I don't know if she missed copying that one from whoever she got the questions from or what happened, but it is missing in action. It's been fun visiting other sites and finding out how others are celebrating, and what their family customs are.
1. Egg nog or hot chocolate? Yes to both
2. Do you wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? Both, but mostly we wrap
3. Colored lights on the tree/house or white? Colored, and they have to twinkle!
4. Do you hang mistletoe? Yes
5. When do you put your decorations up? Usually just the week before Christmas, but we used to do it all on Christmas Eve. We leave ours up till mid-January.
6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)? Oyster dressing, and my mom's cranberry-walnut salad. And I'd give anything to have my grandma's pastries again!
7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child? Going to my grandparents' homes and visiting with all my cousins, and the incredible meals we had at both grandparents. YUM!
9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? When the kids were still at home, we let them open a gift from us to open...just one. It was either new Christmas nighties/jammies or a new outfit to wear the next day.
10. Snow! Love it or dread it? I love it!
11. Can you ice skate? Don't even ask...the last 2 times I tried I hurt myself really badly. Once I tore up the ligaments and tendons in my arm, and the last time, a few years back, I had a spiral fracture of my right leg and ankle that took metal plates, screws, wires, and all sorts of other hardware to put back together, and THREE MONTHS in a wheelchair and/or on crutches. NEVER AGAIN WILL YOU SEE ME ON SKATES!
12. Do you remember your favorite gift? My favorite was the year I got my Betsy doll and miniature piano that had been my Grandma's. As an adult, my favorite was a ruby ring my mother gave me.
13. What's the most important thing about the holidays for you? Celebrating Jesus birth, and family!
14. What is your favorite holiday dessert? The thin, rolled out pastries filled with apricots that my grandma used to make
15. What is your favorite holiday tradition? Taking the annual "coming down the steps on Christmas morning" photo of the kids. We still do it when they come home now! Also love caroling, cookie making, attending Christmas programs, and so many other things I can't even think of them all.
16. What tops your tree? An angel that I made from needlepoint on plastic canvas. She is beautiful!
17. Which do you prefer, giving or receiving? Both---one gives me joy, and the other gives another joy.
18. What is your favorite Christmas carol? Silent Night in German the way my grandmother taught it to me
19. Candy Canes! Yuck or Yum? They aren't really yuck, but I prefer chocolate anything anyday of the week :-)
20. Favorite holiday movie? It's a Wonderful Life
