Sunday, February 8, 2009 Some Advantages of Homeschooling
You can take your history test under a willow tree. This was our Friday routine at the beginning of the school year. Or talk to your dad on the cell phone. :) |

Sunday, February 1, 2009 Pumpkin
Back in September, we had a lovely time observing the habits of our pet yellow garden spider (Argiope aurantia - look it up!), Pumpkin. Because Pumpkin ate her web every night, she had to rebuild it every morning, so we were fortunate enough to witness this web reconstruction several times during our morning wave-goodbye-to-Daddy ritual. One day when we went to visit her, she and her web had vanished. I almost cried. I had become attached to Pumpkin. And I hate spiders. |

The finished product!
Athena is kneading
Wednesday in Homemaking 101 we baked bread. Oddly shaped, but delicious. Oh yeah, and the girls had to clean up. And then I had to clean up after their cleaning up. |

Thursday, January 15, 2009 "The Early Days of Britain"
Again, it’s a distinct advantage being married to a martial artist/boffer geek; we used escrima sticks for the axes. Note the scary blue facepaint and homemade brooches (from Story of the World). The “cloaks” are pillowcases.

Thursday, January 15, 2009 History for Little Girls
So Thursday we played the Harold and William the Conquerer game from Story of the World activity book by Susan Wise Bauer. The Barbies were the ones playing, but I think my girls were able to vicariously learn from and enjoy the game…. |

Tuesday, January 13, 2009 "The Glory That Was Rome"
2009 is new and I’m starting what I’ve been thinking about for a couple months: a homeschool blog. I’m not sure it’s the right thing to do~I notice the more I’m on the computer, the less I am with my family and the less time I have to do other useful things like read, study French, clean (funny how that works).
And when you haven’t a clue how to get a picture to show up on here - yikes - time can sure fly. Once I learn how to do it, this will be a snap, right?
Okay, I finally got the picture to show up, but I lost what I had written about it. It was something about how lucky I am to be married to a boffer geek because then we could use padded swords to make these Roman signums instead of unrolling a bunch of wrapping paper for the tubes. Oh, and how we started off the school year with a recap of the fall of Rome (Chapter One in Story of the World: The Middle Ages). Whew! Done for today. |
