Our Sewing Day...

For the most part, our sewing day was a success!  I would love to say we finished ten things but we only finished three.  I am pleased, though.  Not only did my two oldest daughters sew, well also started and completed school!  I consider that a success!

My oldest daughter (almost twelve) made a gathered skirt.  I let her do all of it.  I only helped when she ran into trouble.  I think she did a very good job.  She is quite pleased (and has worn it all afternoon)  What do you think?

My ten-year-old daughter helped me make my eight-year-old daughter's new pants.  She helped with pinning and sewing, cutting and measuring (not necessarily in that order).  She did a great job and was very patient while I was running around the table constantly.  Do you think you will see these pants in a dimly lit hallway?  I just couldn't resist!

And finally, my ten-year-old daughter got her skirt.  She worked hard for it so I made sure we finished something for her, also.  She has worn it up until I said she could get her suit on to go swimming.  She is quite happy.

My little guys were pretty contented to just watch but my 6-year-old son wanted to "sew a bag".  My eight-year-old daughter worked on her embroidery most of the time.  I am thinking that tomorrow she will work on some machine sewing.  I promised the boys some silk pj bottoms.  Hopefully, that will happen tomorrow.  We shall see!!

Great job girls. I love the pants. Also thanks for the tip about Joann's ... we went today. Tomorrow I'm going by myself so I can really look. Although I did find some cool plaid for a quilt.

Great job all you sweet girls. You all could probably teach me how to sew clothes. :-) See and the "children shall lead them" :-) Can't wait for you to model all of your clothes you've sewn for me!!!

Oh, Stephanie, this brings back so many memories. I was taught by my homeschooling mentor how to sew when Rebekah was 4. I made just about all her clothes for years. My one project every year was a birthday dress and Christmas dress. Those had to be done! We would travel to Carlisle and buy fabrics from Cone Mfg. for just dollars a yard. When Rebekah hit 12 she asked could we buy her dress that year....so sad, but I said yes and the sewing just kind of went by the wayside. I made John-John suits for Jacob, but I've never made anything for Ethan (other than a crocheted baby blanket before he was born). But guess what? Pack rat that I am, I saved the large pieces of the extra fabric from all my sewing projects and will one day make a quilt for my daughter. ONE day....Do you know how to quilt? I'll have to get Michele to help me!

Not only are they brilliant and precious, but they are extremely talented! Add sewing to the list of things I need to have your girls teach me to do!
