The Life and Times of Ticonderoga #2

My life began like the life of many others.  One day I was a tree, the next I was not.  I am not going to bore you with the details of my former life, though.  I will begin with a time not too long before now.  This time began in a brightly lit place next to several of my companions.  We were tightly packed into our traveling compartment and I wondered where my life was leading from here.  You know those moments where "the rubber meets the road", was this all I was created for?

The scenery began to change one day.  To my life, any change was to be treasured.  The jostling was not so comfortable but I was willing to bear it for the sake of adventure.  As the world stopped rolling and we settled into place, I was concerned that life was going to be stagnant again.  That was a short-lived concern, you see, I was chosen.

When I say "chosen" I mean singled out.  I was picked from the crowd of others packed together and I was the one to be "used".  Now, I will not say it was easy.  I was quite dull from not being used so I needed constant "sharpening".  That was not always pleasant, but I was okay with it.  The chance to be used was all the reward I needed to withstand the pain of sharpening.

I was chosen to be used to create.  I was chosen to tell stories.  All of life was flowing from me.  I was chosen to share thoughts and dreams, beautiful pictures and wonderings.  My life was more than dullness and status quo.  I was to be used to become more than a piece of wood.

With that "use" came change.  I was no longer the same as I was.  Each sharpening made less of me, but inside I knew that it was okay.  I was leaving a legacy which was more than what I was or ever could become.

One day, I was laid aside.  There was no more sharpening to be done.  I had become complete.  I had lead a full, long life of many adventures and I was tired, ready to be done.  I am not gone, though.  That legacy of being chosen and used can be seen today in all the different ways I was used.  I am complete not because my life came to an end, but because of all the ways I was used.

This has been a challenge of the Home School Blogger Company Porch to write about a pencil.  Hope you have enjoyed it.  Click back and read about other pencils in the blog world.

That was beautiful. Now I don't want to get rid of my old pencils. They should be little treasures. When we see others who look a little worn or aged we should remember this story and appreciate people in a new way. Thanks for writing that!

Thank you for reading my story. Interestingly enough, I told my husband about your entry, and how I enjoyed yours the most of all the ones I had read. Then I got home, and you had read mine. I sometimes see myself as a pencil. Maybe that's why I loved your story, I could so relate. When I have some time, I will visit your blog again. OH, I live in the southeast too.

That's a beautifully crafted story! My story ("Pencil with a Purpose") is also from a pencil's perspective. This is a fun challenge, isn't it? :)

Have a blessed weekend!

That story is an allegory of the Christian life. We are chosen by our King to be used, and with use comes the need for sharpening. At the end when all our usefulness in the kingdom has been accomplished we leave behind a legacy for those who will come after us. Wonderful story!

I just posted my story this evening. Stop by if you have a bit.
Blessings,
Missy

I, too, absorbed some spiritual truths from your pencil story. Lord, sharpen me that I may be of better use. Amen.053961
