A Special Gift

I am back!  Well, I am back for a few moments.  I just had to share something with you.  There is a challenge at the HSB Company Porch to share about a special gift you received this year.  I thought that this topic would be a wonderful way to bridge Christmas and the New Year!

I received so many wonderful gifts this year.  I have several favorites, but my favorite gift was not a tangible one.  My Wonderful Husband and I started a tradition a couple of Christmases ago.  We take the children and a bunch of homemade goodies and sing Christmas carols to the firemen who are working on Christmas.  We decided to expand our visits this year to include the paramedic station in our town.

They were our first stop yesterday morning.  There were two gentlemen there just passing the time, waiting for a call when we showed up.  The seven of us entered the little trailer and informed them that we were going to sing for them.  They were so sweet to stand back and give us a "stage".  As we broke into a verse of "Away In A Manger", these broad, tough men began to soften.

Our next song was "Silent Night".  These two special men just melted.  As their eyes glistened, I thought for sure that my voice would not hold out.  We finished with "We Wish You A Merry Christmas".  Darling Daughter Number Three handed them their muffins and we thanked them for the job that they do.

One of the gentlemen wiped his eyes, hugged and thanked me.  He said this has never happened before.  This was the most special Christmas gift that I received this year.  It was free, but it was priceless.  Just like Jesus.

What a great Christmas tradition and a way to share the love of Jesus with those that tend to be forgotten until we "need" them.

That is a wonderful gift your family gave - and how amazing that you found a gift for yourself, too! My brother is a firefighter/EMT/Paramedic, and my dad was a firefighter, so I understand the sacrifices these men make to work on Christmas Day (or Thanksgiving or any "family" holiday). Thank you for sharing your gift - and for the idea of how we can bless those who serve us thanklessly all the time!

How neat! On Christmas Day, about 12:30, I took all the recycleable trash to the drop, which is near a small fire station. We saw several firefighters there, and thought- for the first time, I might ashamedly say, about them serving. Next year (actually, maybe for Easter...) we will be reaching out to our firefighters and policeman!

Blessings,
Momma
