Nov. 13, 2007 Produce Time!
As I have told your before, I love produce shopping time! I am now paying for two baskets a month. I decided one basket just was not enough. I kick in $40 each month and this is what I got:

Tell me you could go to the grocery store and come home with this much produce for $40!
A produce co-op is the way to go! Try to find one in your area. If you cannot find one, start one up. That is what I did!! |

Oct. 4, 2007 Now, Don't Judge Me...
Okay, after the last post and the couple of comments about my love of books, I just had to post again!! Look at this!!!
I went to our Friends of the Library sale tonight. I got all of these books for $104!!! I found loads of books to complete my Ambleside book list. My daughters found all sorts of stuff AND I helped friends get the books they needed! It was a good thing I was there!!
Punkin (who is my dad ) said that I got my love of book collecting from them. He is right. In the beginning, most my books had come from their library. Growing up, I remember going to the friends sales in the town we lived in. That was one of the best library systems I have ever seen (and I have seen a few). They would have their friends sales in the local mall and line the books around the entire place!
So, that is where the book collecting started. Since then, my collection has become my own. I even loan them books once in a while. They know that whenever they come to visit, I may have something for them to read.
My hope is that I never run out of books for my children to read. What a legacy! Can you imagine five more like me??? Chelelew is right, I need to post a "Wordless Wednesday" and show you my shelves of books and how neatly arranged all the STACKS are. It is overwhelming!
I may wait until AFTER we get bookshelves built, but then I may never show you...

Sep. 23, 2007 This Week, And This Week Only...
I took my oldest daughter to Joann Fabrics today. They have 50% off all their clearance fabric. I took advantage of that great deal the last time I found out about it. Last May, I bought $500 worth of fabric for $150! Today, they did not have as much $.50/yard fabric so I spent about $140 for $400 worth of fabric. I have enough fabric to make four entire wardrobes!!

I picked up fabric for costumes, also. Buying clearance fabric is a great way to pick up the really fancy fabrics without spending $9 to $12 per yard! Last May, I bought satins and linens for $1 per yard! We are going to be sewing each day after school. I will try to get some photos of what we make.
By the way, has anyone notice the price of milk lately? To offset my great fabric/clothing savings I went and bought milk. I paid $4.39 a gallon!! The checkout engineer said she was sure that milk would get to $5 a gallon by Christmas. It is getting so bad, we are going to need a cow in the back yard! So what do YOU do to cut back on your milk usage? Do you have some "tricks" that make your milk go further?

Aug. 15, 2007 Look What I Bought!!!
Look what I bought for $20!

We had our monthly produce co-op day today. Another member and I were the ones in charge of shopping. We have a group of about 20 families who each give $20. Then we go down to the farmers market downtown and shop with that money. It is a neat way to try things you maybe would not try and get things in bulk to save money. We shop with the wholesalers, mostly. When things are in season, we will run over to the local side and pick some of those things. Watermelon was a local purchase. I was able to get 13 watermelons for $2.25 each. Those things were HUGE!!
This is what we had for lunch today:

I love fresh produce!! I love saving money!!!
