Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised. Proverbs 31:30

Relationships

I love the way God works in relationships.  God can do amazing things in a relationship, when you let Him.  I think back to the song from Music Machine called "The String Song" by Mark Pendergrass.  Am I dating myself by even bringing this up?  I loved that album (yes, I do believe I am dating myself...I just said album).  That is one of my favorite songs.  For those of you who do not know the song, it describes all the things that white string can do.  Tie a bow, fly a kite, make a sling all sorts of things.  It also describes what string cannot do:  can't pull hate out, tie of fear, wrap up doubt.  It can't mend a friendship that is almost through.

All this to say string cannot do any of these things, but God can.  When we allow him to work in our relationships, we have something far more special than we can imagine.  There is a sweetness which cannot be explained.  A relationship built on God grows a love that never ends.

Darling Daughter Number Three

My daughter shared with the world today, through Baptism, that she has accepted Jesus as her Savior and is a child of God, saved by grace.  It was truly wonderful.  The innocence, as she looked up at Pastor as he shared about her decision, was so sweet.  We had a very blessed day.

My Hedge of Thorns

I am sure that my couple of regular readers will have noticed that I did not finish my posts on the HSB Literary Book Club "Hedge Of Thorns".  It was not that I did not read it.  It was more that life got so busy that I was not able to form sentences much less expound on my personal reading.  I wanted to take a moment and share my thoughts.

As per the title, "Hedge Of Thorns" was about just that.  The hedge that is placed around a young man for his protection.  Rather than going any deeper into the description of the book, I wanted to share MY hedge of thorns.  I feel like God has laid this on my heart, so I need to type about it.

When I was a child, my parents were quite protective of me.  If you had asked me at the time, being the peer-dependent spoiled child that I was, I would have said over-protective.  Mind you, from the eyes of a child who is ignorant, nothing looks as it truly is.  I did not get to do the things that the other kids did.  My mom limited my time with children and families who were "questionable".

At the time, I had no ability to stand up for myself or to speak my mind.  I did not know what I thought was important other than being accepted.  I wanted to be liked so would do try to push my mom to let me do what I wanted to do.  She did not fall for it, praise God.

I look back now and see that protective action by my mother as my hedge of thorns.  Trust me, it was thorns because I bristled against it constantly.  Grade school was not a pleasant time to be around me, just ask my mom.  That hedge was put there for my safety and preservation by my Lord.  The statistics which came out of the class I was in are not pretty.  I had a very small class.  Of the class members, three where pregnant before their senior year, at least one was in jail for grand theft auto, one died in a drug-related plane crash,  and several have fallen out of sight.

Bad company corrupts.  How easily that could have been me.  I praise God for His grace.  I thank God for my parents and my hedge.

I encourage you to read this book, if you have not already.  It will move you in a way you may not expect.  Maybe you have a hedge YOU have never thought about.

Happy New Year!!!

We have rung in another New Year!  So, how is 2008 feeling so far?  I have to say that the beginning of 2008 feels much better than the end of 2007.  I ended up with a stomach bug and was sick until yesterday.  Today has been the best I have felt since last week.  So 2008 feels much better!!

I could not sleep last night.  Most of the time, when I cannot sleep, it usually means that I have been given the gift of time to talk with God.  I spent several hours praying.  When you have that kind of time, you tend to dig up all those past prayer promises.  I did find a few new ones to pray about.  Can you believe that I received the answer to one of those today?!  I know you can believe because that is just how God works.

I needed a clear, knock-me-over-the-head-with-a-brick, two-by-four-between-the-eyes kind of an answer.  Well, that is what I got.  So many times, I need to remind myself that I am not as smart as I think I am.  It is humbling moments like these that help me to remember that!

In His Time

Well, I have not finished putting up my Christmas trees.  Today did not go as I planned that it would.  I did not bake pies this time, though.  We were up at 7:00am to start the Christmas decorating extravaganza.  My oldest was washing her clothes when I opened the laundry room door and smelled a horrible smell.  My Father-in-law came to see what was wrong.  He assumed that the smell was a belt which was slipping in the dryer.

After spending some time investigating with my Wonderful Husband, this is what they found:

This is the back side of the outlet which the dryer was plugged into.  The wires were not secure in the plug and cause this.  They replaced the outlet and everything has been fixed.

Two very important things that we discovered:

1.  Never leave your dryer running when you leave or go to bed.

2.  God is watching over and protecting us even when we do not realize it.

Now, I will (Lord willing) finish the decorating tomorrow.  God always has a surprise for me.  I just need to enjoy the ride!!
