The Chimney Sweep's Ransom - by Dave & Neta Jackson

My favorite character from this book is Ned Carter. He is young, only 13 years old, but knows much about life on the tough side. His family doesn't have much, but Ned works diligently on any jobs that he can acquire. With a broken arm, doing a minor amount of anything causes agonizing pain, but Ned knows that he needs to keep earning money, no matter how much excruciating discomfort it causes. He has a very self-less disposition, caring for the needs of his family.

Star of Light - by Patricia St. John

My least favorite character in this book is Si Mohamed. He is primarily concerned about greedily making money for himself. When he discovered that their baby daughter was blind, he made a bargain with a beggar to give the baby away. He did not take care of his family. He felt that everything was going as it should, as long as the family obeyed his wants, and strict rules, and nobody could make a tiny mistake...or else. He did not care about what was really happening in his family.

Very nicely done, Skye Writer! Well-written and your sketches show depth into the character's motivations.

Star of Light was one of my favorite books as a young person! I still own my old copy, too. I agree with your evaluation of Si Mohammed. A very, very disagreeable character.
