PREDATORS
Plan to arrive around 11:45 a.m. to pick up tickets in the Grand Lobby. Proceed upstairs to the entrance of the Exhibit Halls. A Museum Educator will greet you and lead the group to the Sci-Lab where the two-part program begins. Your children will become Nature Detectives and attempt to solve "The Case of the Talking Skulls". The Putnam's Naturalist will explain how to "read" the clues that skulls provide: predator or prey? herbivore, carnivore or omnivore? nocturnal or diurnal? Animal skulls are great tools for teaching wildlife diversity and the role each animal plays in its natural habitat. Live animals will reinforce the connection between skull form (evidence) and animal behavior. Next, you will tour the special exhibition, PREDATORS. Following an introduction to this exhibit, families will have the opportunity to complete a PREDATORS Treasure Hunt. The Treasure Hunt activity highlights the exhibit's special features and themes as well as reinforces reading and writing skills.
Program developed for ages 8 and up.
Fee: $5.00 per person ages 3 and up and one adult at $5 for each child paid (chaperone rate). Additional adults $7 (adult group rate). Current members: $2 per person ages 3 and up.

Over the last 20 years, "Dr. J" has taught science or education courses at both public and private schools to students at the high school and university levels in four states.
In addition to a busy speaking and debating schedule in the U.S., he has also made several lecture tours in South America. He is a dynamic speaker on Creation Science, is especially popular with high school and college age groups, and has addressed many science classes in both public and private schools. His main ministry is to aid believing students to contend for the Faith and to equip them as witnesses against post-modernistic thinking.
Tom Vail is the founder and president of Canyon Ministries. Back in 1982, he gave up a business career to become a Colorado River Boatman.
Instead of navigating through corporate corridors, Tom took up a career leading rafting trips through the Grand Canyon. He has also worked as a part-time guide for the Grand Canyon National Park Service, and was an elected member of the board of directors for Grand Canyon River Guides. After becoming a Christian, his change in worldviews triggered a search for answers to questions he had about the evolutionary model of the formation of Grand Canyon. He now says that the creation model of the canyon makes more sense and answers more questions than the evolutionary model.
In 2003, his book Grand Canyon, a Different View was published and briefly banned from bookstores run by the National Park Service. The book combines stunning photography with commentaries of some of the leading creation science writers, researchers, and theologians of our time.
Sponsor: Quad-City Creation Science Association - a non-denominational, non-profit association dedicated to telling the truth in Science Education and proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ - as Creator, Savior, and Lord of all. More info: Helmut Welke

Ready for School?
Is your home all ready to start school, if you haven't already?
Is your CPI form filled out and submitted? It needs to be submitted, according to NICHE, by the first day of school in the school district you are living in.
Did you get confused by the lead testing requirements or the dental/vision screening law? Don't be, The lead testing requirement ONLY applies to homeschoolers if you are filling out a CPI form for a child under the age of 6. Legally a CPI form is not required until the child is 7. There may be a few instances when someone would feel the need to fill out a CPI for the child younger than 6, but this would not be the normal. http://www.the-niche.org/Pages/faq.html#healthscreen gives the explaination step by step to determine if you need to do the lab testing.
And what about the dental and vision screening that was also passed by the legislature? There is a specific homeschool excemption in there so it does not affect homeschool kids at all.
Have you got all your curriculum? Need some last minute used curriculum from somewhere? Try the HSLDA used curriculum auction site at http://market.hslda.org/auction/xcAuction.asp. E-bay also always has used curriculum at http://www.ebay.com . Don't have time for an auction? Some of my favorite sites for used curriculum are Used Homeschool Curriculum at http://www.homeschoolclassifieds.com/. Vegsource has for sale boards at http://www.vegsource.com/homeschool/ . Do a google searach and you will find lots more. New curriculum may be the quickest curriculum you can find, and they are numerous and multiple. A google search will give you more than you want to check out.
Got to go mediate a "discussion" between two kids. Talk at ya later.

Iowa CPI forms. - PDF versions available online
I have been searching the internet once again this year looking for where the CPI form can be printed off. I have so far been unable to find a form that is not in PDF format. Unless there's a trick I do not know about, I cannot fill out the PDF form on my computer and print it filled out. I try to keep things saved online as much as possible and, besides, my handwriting isn't all that legible even when I try. So for me personally, I really want it in Word format. When and if I find one, I'll submit a link to it.
The following links both download in PDF format only.

My kids and I have made a bunch of worksheets! Some of our favorites are word searches and handwriting worksheets with our AWANA verses on them. It's not just language art worksheets though. It also covers Math, geography and MUCH more! You just have to check it out HERE.
One last thing. I just found out the other day that homeschoolshare.com now has 275 free unit studies and 200 free lapbooks! WOW! I love this site and use it a lot with my kids. If you are looking for some great free studies to incorporate into your homeschool make sure you check out homeschoolshare.com! If you have something you have made for your own children that you would like to share, be sure to take a look at their How To Submit page.
I'll see you next week right here at - Freebie Fridays!
Happy Homeschooling

Daily Freebie
Did you know there you can get a daily freebie? This site is Homeschool Resource of the Day. You can check this site each day M-F and there will be a new freebie e-book to download. No catch.
In fact, if you want notified on sunday of what is coming up for that week, you can join their notification list - which only comes out once a week (unless there is some special deal) and you will know ahead of time what days you want to be sure to check it out. Each freebie can be right-clicked and saved to your computer for future printing or even reading it on the computer.

At the top of the page, go into the "Join" link to get notified. The offerings are quite varied and you never know what will be presented and they may be aimed at elementary kids, teens, adults, or a combination. It's really a neat surprise and you wonder every day what it is going to be as you check the site.
BUT - if you miss it, t is still available - at a cost.
I really think this is a great link with some wonderful resources. Check it out.
