MIDTERMS!!! "AHHHHH! I always get tired of the ads by this time, though some are pretty clever. It is time to vote. The debates have been had, the mud slinging thrown, the surprizes discussed. Let's vote!
New Mexico has a few close races. In particular, the race for Congressional District 1 - Incumbant (R) Heather Wilson and (D) Patricia Madrid.
Laura Bush came today to campaign for Heather Wilson. The kids and I attended with some old high school friends. It was great fun. My kids have always attended any political rally, debate, or whatever with my husband and I (though he couldn't make it today due to school). It is good for them to understand the political realm and know that they can maneuver through the system. This was no different, except that we forgot water and the boys got really thirsty!!! (so did mommy!!!)
The first half had some of the Republican candidates give a few minutes of why we should vote for them. We listened to, among others,
Vickie Perea for Secratary of State,
Demisa Padilla for State Treasurer,
Jim Bibb for State Attorney General,
Dr. Allen McCulloch for State Senator and
John Dendahl for Govenor. After a short break, consisting of me finding a place to sit with my very tired two year old to no avail, we heard from
Senator Pete Domenici,
Congresswoman Heather Wilson (who, prayerfully, will keep her position) and
Laura Bush.
Laura Bush gave a fine speech concerning Heather Wilson. Ms. Wilson is one of my favorite lady-politicians. She is strong and intelligent. Heather knows what is at stake internationally and nationally, as well as locally. My heart lept for joy at her mentioning "self-government". Being a BPAer, self-government means something! It is not a catch phrase, but a statement on the way we should view our government. She understands that
this government was not founded on dependency of the people upon the governing power, but the governing power upon the people. Let us never loose sight of this!
Patricia Madrid. She is not a very good public speaker and she loses miserably in debates. She cannot say what she really thinks (as in taxes for example) because she'll look like a .... democrat... And not just any dem, but a Pelosi/Kerry/Clinton/Richardson dem. Patsy does not understand our founding (in particular, self-government), nor the gravity of terrorism, nor of the needs of our unique state (border issues, education, R&D). Her political career has not been great in the past, and I think it best if we allow her to retire.
Heather Wilson has been our state representative for eight years and is doing a fine job. She needs to return as her interests are that of our state and not special interests (or lobbyists who pay for access - yes, Patsy said so concerning lobbyists).
New Mexicans - VOTE!!! VOTE REPUBLICAN!!!
