Pilgrim Institute
I have had the privilege of training under Master Teacher, Ruth Smith and her daughter, Jeanette Whittaker. The week was amazing and so much was taught that my weekend was spent just organizing my mind as where to begin. I thought that I would just like to take a moment and thank Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Whittaker for their time and effort and patience in instructing and enlightening and forming new manners and practices in us as we educate our students and children.
Mrs. Smith impressed me greatly when I first met her two years ago. Her time here this week in no way diminished that impression. She is a reasonable and reasoned person. She reasons from the Scripture to convey the Principles that guide America's Christian History. This is so inspiring to listen to. Her articulate manners and convictions effortlessly convey the mystery of Biblical Principle Approach. During the week, I felt the scales fall away as the truths of God's Word lite the path to understanding.
Part of the classes were taught by Mrs. Whittaker. What a blessing she must have in her parents, who learned and taught this philosophy of government and education to her and her sisters. Mrs. Whittaker has internalized it so well that her mind thinks in these terms. I am having to work out my public education sludge to recalibrate my intellect to use its God-given reasoning skills. I enjoyed learning from Mrs. Whittaker. Her manner is light and words quick. She did some hands on work using Aesop's Fables. She was able to get a group of adults excited about a child's story. Our discussion went well beyond the length of the story. We delved so deep into the character of the animals and the plot that our minds literally began seeing this Lion and Mouse not as animals in some story, but as examples of cause and effect of actions. The actions were not limited to one instance, but included thought, emotion, decisions, consequences, and character. If a fable not seven paragraphs long could bring out such a beautiful demonstration of the Internal - Causative to External - Effect, how much more a literary classic.
This year our class not only reviewed the Rudiments course, but we also began our own development of a curriculum in a subject. Some chose Literature, Science, Language (as in a foreign language), Worldviews, and Bible. We also had attendees that taught grade-school to high school and adults. I chose, with the help of Mrs. Smith, to tackle Literature for my high school daughter. YIKES! This isn't my strong area, I much rather have delved into Math or Physics. However, developing a Literature curriculum has opened my eyes to the treasure this subject is. I am enjoying stretching and expanding my learning in ways I didn't think possible.
Please take the time to visit the Pilgrim Institute and all they offer. I noticed online classes for high school and adults. A wonderful two day conference is coming up in Oklahoma in April. I encourage you to attend, you will not be disappointed!!!
Thank you both again for coming and sharing and teaching and laughing with us!!!!

What Is Shepherd's Fold?
Our School's Motto is: Fidelis, Virtus, Continentia
Our School's Motto means: Faith, Virtue, Self-Control
We chose Shepherd's Fold as the name of our school to reflect Jesus, our Shepherd, leading and directing our learning and our lives. The Lord created us to be multi-dimensional. Each part of us needs His guidance. As He cares, directs, and protects for every aspect of our lives, then we, with His help, care for, direct, and protect our children.
The Good Shepherd Art Piece
African Gospel Art has several pieces. This one about the Good Shepherd really connected with me. The kind owner of the site is allowing me to use it in my blog. Please visit the art work; it really is delightful.
