Sep. 13, 2008 - Ice Cream Social
Last night we had our "Back to No School" Ice Cream Social at a local park with our homeschool group. It was so much fun! It was a beautiful summer night (minus the pesky mosquitos) and the kids had a blast running around playing with their friends. Claudia brought enough ice cream to feed the free world and everyone else brought toppings and fun stuff. It was so much fun!
It's so funny how they say homeschoolers are unsocialized. We were watching our kids all interact and play together (even though some of them hardly ever see each other) and the kids that were not part of our group kinda just looking on. When Lori went over to this little boy who was not part of our group terrorizing the little girls to tell him to stop, he growled at her! Growled!!!!! Oh yeah, but homeschoolers are unsocialized!
I just found that so funny!
I just always have such a sense of peace after a fun time like that. It was a great way to end a rollercoaster week.

Jul. 25, 2008 - Watching your children and remembering...
My younger son is having his birthday bash tonight. He's invited 3 of his baseball friends that he's had for a few years now. They are really nice boys. After we spent the day at the local aquatic center we headed home for pizza and the 2k8 tournament on the newly acquired Xbox 360. It is so funny to listen to boys (real All American, stereotypical boys!) interact with one another. They are dissing eachother, cheering eachother, teasing eachother and many other interactions). I'm grateful that he's found such an great group of friends finally with the same interests as he has. Their parents are all wonderful people with many of the same values as we have. They're not over the top strict and they're not uninvolved parents who haven't a clue what their kids are doing.
It brings back memories of my 1st sleepover (of course I was 13---my parents weren't as "cool" as I am...
,my boys have been having them for years) and how my girlfriends and I laughed until we almost wet our sleeping bags (why doesn't anyone bring sleeping bags to sleepovers anymore?) I know, I'm rambling...it's just been a pretty emotional week and I love having a houseful of kids who are laughing and enjoying themselves. It makes me realize that sometimes I take life too seriously.

Jul. 23, 2008 - Balance
Life is all about balance, isn't it? Well lately I've realized that my life didn't have enough FUN in it. Too much maintenance and not enough fun. So, lately I've been forcing myself to leave my house and have some fun! I feel so much better.
Last night I went to my first mom's night out in 6 months--it was sooo much fun! I've missed those nights-laughing until your stomach hurts. Most importantly, getting to be me and not just mommy. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE being mommy---it's my world. But sometimes I miss being me without the watchful eye of my children (who happen to copy my EVERY move, good or bad!)
So, today we are off to the new aquatic center in town to meet the group and I'm looking forward to it. The old me would've been like-2days out in a row, no, can't do it. But the new and improved me says - Heck yeah!
