Apr. 23, 2009 - ~Simple ideas....
I'm sitting here typing as I sip my coffee. The little window is open next to me and it's such an absolutely beautiful morning. It's cool and I can hear so many birds singing and chirping through my window. My three favorite times (when I feel giddy times) is when the sun is slowly rising, when the sun is slowly descending, and when it's raining a consistent good rain.
Yesterday hubby took me out for a nice lunch and then we came home and spent a couple of hours in the yard and on the garden(s). It was such a wonderful time out. I fertilized the apple trees, the citrus trees, the tomatoes, peppers, and other vegetables. Hubby looped the twine for my beans to climb, planted a few plants and shrubs, and we filled the chicken coops with fresh leaves from our Oaks.

The garden is growing. It has been one year since we began with one little pool in the side yard. It has now expanded to three pools, 15-20 feet of beans, 2 rows of onions, some watermelon and cantaloupe and potatoes on our hill, lots and lots of fruit producing trees and bushes, and our newly constructed 16X8 garden bed. Amazing......all within (or just a little over) a year. Little-by-little.

Today I will focus on laundry and bathrooms. I'm looking forward to it. Every day I get a little closer to the orderliness I desire and need. I have completed the boys clothes (in drawers) and they have what they need.... not much more. I still have their hang-up clothes to go through and am half way through with the girls drawers. Little-by-little Bit-by-bit. Steady plodding.
Here's a picture of our 'napkins'.

I wish I could say this is an original idea, but it comes from one of my closest friends in the hills of KY. We stayed with their family for a few days about 18 months or so ago and I got the idea from their table top (their table made by Mr. True, if anyone is in need of beautiful wooden table, benches, etc... see side bar KYHILLS in my friends list). I have finally implemented this genius idea and am not going crazy searching for those last minute napkins that can't be found. "Didn't I just buy 500?" I am not at the mercy of the sales or coupons either. The 'napkins' sit neatly in the basket on the table and if needed can double as a wash cloth since they were wash cloths to begin with

*Here are the children with their new ipod's - lol. Today they learned how to cut paper without scissors, had help making their own ipod's, and are now listening to big Bubba with another guitar time story. Fun.

Hello. I am so impressed with your swimming pool gardens! I have a question, though. Do you have to drill or cut some holes on the bottom for drainage? I think we are going to give this a try. Thank you!

Yes, we drilled 1/2 inch holes all the way around the pool (about an inch or less up from the bottom on the sides). Then we also drilled 4 or 5 holes in the bottom as well.
Some vegetables are more forgiving when it comes to moisture/watering than others. We found this out the hard way with our very first pool garden which was squash.
