There are days dear friends that I just don't make it to my computer, hence my sporadic entries.
A couple of you have asked some questions...so I thought I'd catch up on those first!
Some one asked why we had to cut down our willow tree: It was rotting from the inside out and with every big storm we were losing major parts of the tree and they could have potentially hit the house. I have had a willow tree at EVERY house; they are messy, messy trees but bring beautiful shade. We were extremely blessed to have our friends help us out saving us over $800 or more.
Mary, you asked what we planted in our revamped east flower bed:
Since we had to start over from scratch and with limited funds we optoed to plant bulbs and seed flowers with limited annual plants. Bulbs included gladiolas, acidanthera (white flowers with a maroon and gold center with flat tall leaves, Tigridia (tri-pedal white flower with dark pink spotted tri pedal center and flat mid height leaves. Both the tigridia and acidanthera I've never seen before and so we thought we'd try it. Seeds we planted: four o'clocks (one of my faves), morning glories, moon glories, sweet peas, bachelor buttons, foxglove, daisy, latis, blanket flowers. Annual plants on the border: silver ??, petunias, and some tall marigolds. I'm calling it our rainbow garden right now because as you can see we have just about every color. I let the kids pick out what they thought looked interesting and made it work as much as I could height wise! They did a great job and we all had lots of fun. My visitors now are greated with a pretty garden again, makes me feel much better about how are house looks. We have been under constructioninside and out for years due to various circumstances. We also put in a veggie garden! I love gardening both veggies and flowers but am far from being an expert. Thanks Mary for the idea for growing lettuce in containers, my front deck is looking good and lettuce doesn't do well in our big garden so...it's doing well!
That's all for now...
Blessings on your day!
