Show n' Tell Friday Oct 19

Every 3 years our church puts on what they call, Elva Kaffe. The people who started our church were Scandinavian. Being German we love getting to know another culture. My kids know more about being Swedish than German! LOL

DDPossum, has been eagerly waiting to be Sant Lucia for YEARS and she was given the task to greet people as they came in. A very fun long day for both of us but worth it.

Thank you for stopping by and visiting my blog. The quilt is a wall quilt, so you are right....not nearly big enough for a bed. I just had purchased a few flannel fat quarters and put them together b/c I loved the colors for Fall.

Your dd is lovely and I am glad that her wish was fulfilled! I took German in High School, which was many years ago. One of my blog sisters -- Sharity, her grandmother is German. She calls her Oma. We have written a few things back and forth, but neither one of us know if we spell the words correctly. Like this for instance....Haben ein guten tag! ;o) How'd I do?

Blessings,
Lori

My daughter received a St. Lucia outfit for her American Girl Doll a couple years ago. We have enjoyed learning more about it. It's good to learn more about our roots. We have German roots. My great grandmother came from there.

This little Norwegian girl always wanted to be Saint Lucia, but, alas, since she is a fireman's daughter, there are to be no candles/lights anywhere near her hair.

We celebrate Santa Lucia on Dec 13th from an Italian point of view. There are so many similarities.
Your daughter looks so lovely in her wreath.

Oh Jenny,
I'm glad your daughter's dream came true! She looks sooo lovely!

We are in the same boat as you - Jeff is Swedish, but I am 100% German. The girls have been to Swedish camp twice now and Amber was just asked earlier this week by a friend if she was going to be a helper next year since she will be too old to be "in school" otherwise. I had told them after this past summer that this would probably be their last year of it (I think they know enough Swedish & I don't need to spend the $ on a 3rd round), but I think Amber kinda would like to be a helper. Not sure what we will do there - I told here we would see - but it will probably still be a no. We just need a German school now! :)

On the microwave issue - the jury is still out. I came VERY close to breaking down and RUNNING to the nearest appliance store and picking up a new one, but I'm afraid I'd then regret it. (I've been reading up on the dangers of microwaves and it helps. I don't mind glowing in the dark, it's just the long-term health consequences I'm concerned about. My mom has a friend that ONLY cooks with her microwave and has on-going problems with skin cancer. Any connection? - maybe, maybe not). The longer I go without, the easier it is - I'm just finding I will need to buy a few more Pyrex dishes to warm leftovers in my little toaster oven. So, Jeff advises me to hold off a little bit more and see how it goes (wise advice). I suppose after a few months of living without it, if I still retain my sanity (you will have to let me know if I've lost it), we can remove the dead microwave and I can plan on doing something with the empty space above the stove (?). So far, I've caught myself only 2 or 3 times actually putting something like a bagel into the microwave and THEN realizing it doesn't work. lol

Oct. 25, 2007 - St. Lucia...

Posted by SuzyScribbles
My visiting S&Ts has not been very good the past couple of weeks. I've been bogged down in so many "real life" experiences (some not so pleasant) and have been out of town.
But I saw this when I hopped over to your cbox this morning, and just had to ask: Is the church Swedish Baptist? I'm Swedish, too, and I grew up in a Swedish Baptist church. We never did St. Lucia, but my sister's in-laws did it.
Your DD looks adorable...
