This is the 4th time I've tried to post this....one more time!!!
Over Thanksgiving we were blessed to be able to visit dear friends in Virginia just an hour from DC. Here are some pics. We saw sooooooo much cool stuff and learned even more.
funeral at Arlington
Changning of the guard at Tomb of the Unknowns very moving...
Spotsylvania battlefield in our friends backyard! fall colors were beautiful.
Earthen works (trenches) at Spotys both sides fought in trenches like this just feet apart! Civil War. These now almost filled in trenches cover miles at this battlefield.
trenches like they are today...
Monticello (Jefferson's home)
Lincoln Memorial
very sad Posseum at Vetnam memorial...very sad place
Korean Memorial - my favorite because my dad fought in it and it was the most interesting to walk thru the wall in the background has ghost like images of actual people who were in the war.
Catham House where huge union hospital was treating both union and confederate troops. Can you see the musical notes on the gate?
National Marine Museum - kids fave! We just had to go our friend is a Marine. Lou lifting an actual pack...very very heavy!
Bub's turn!
Marine museum - see how it looks like Iwo Jima?
laughing!
It was a wonderful vacation...see more pics on my slide show!
If you would like to join our fun check out Canadagirl we'd love to see what you have!
I see you posted on Show N Tell which I just discovered. You have a lovely blog, great photos and discriptions about your visit with friends and American History tour.
I like your Western quotes. I'll have to check those out.
I tried to post the Show N Tell button on my side bar but all my side bar photos disappeared and due to recently having that happen I deleted it. I need to learn to make a slide show next. Anyhow, I'm learning to add the 'bells and whistles' of blogging.
What a awesome trip !!! I love the pics . Just wished I could see you better. [ 0= I am so happy you keep doing a S&T. It is a lot of fun to read about what your family is doing.
I love your S & T for this week! It really took me back as my folks are from VA and we used to visit there twice a year when I was a kid. We were always visiting Civil War sites and even found old mini-balls once. I didn't realize at the time what cool history lessons I was getting. I loved Monticello.
Of course, in D.C., the memorials for Viet Nam and Korea wheren't there back then. I'd love to see those now. My dad was in the Korean war too.
Looks like you had sooo much fun. Thanks for sharing with us. :-)
Great pictures of a wonderful place to visit

We visited Virginia/Washington about 10 years ago now. Hubby had a conference and I tagged along with him. Your post brought back lots of memories for me. Arlington Cemetary is a very moving experience as well as seeing the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Great post - thanks for sharing!
Blessings to you!

The Korean War monument is also my favorite it DC. It is so unique and I love how they make it "real "and bring you into it so you can truly experience the different aspects of the memorial.
