I adore this blinkie. Isn't this the truth!! I totally teach in my pj's! That's the fun of homeschooling! |

Dylan had his first spelling test today! What a big step! He had to spell out loud the three words from his spelling list, then write them down on paper. He did great! He got a little a+ stamp on his hand. He was so cute, he was lying on my bed, with his legs crossed writing in his notebook, and he looked up at me and grinned with his big dimple and said " i love school mom" and i said " me too." it was so cute. Marlee has hit a huge milestone. She can write her name!!!! We are so excited for her. She is growing up so fast, they all are. We have been really relaxed with school as I have been terribly ill and all three kids have had bronchitis and pnuemonia at the same time. We have been focusing on doing fun things like christmas stuff, wrapping presents, etc. Today we had the homeschool support group cookie exchange, since the kids were still sick, I ran our box of cookies in and helped them sort stuff out and had a little chat with everyone, then took our box and ran! LOL. 15 bags of goodies! four goodies in each bag. yum yum!! We've been doing a lot of reading and watching christmas movies. School is relaxed, but fun. We have read scriptures each day and had family prayer each day, the spirit has been very strong in our home lately. Especially with me being sick, i have seen many changes in myself. Good changes. Makes me happy that we homeschool. I am happy about many things and thankful for sooo many things. Especially my family and my God. Ok, off to bed for me! |
|
We have all been so sick. School has been put on hold. I have been sick and in hospital, the kids all have bronchitis and pnuemonia. But we are getting better and tom. hope to get back into the swing of things with school! Looking forward to it for sure!!!!! Love, Jaelle |

I found the cutest book at the library called " I am a homeschooler". We have had fun reading it! Dylan is helping me read it. I am amazed at the fact that he is grasping reading. I was excited to find the next level of the phonics file folder games at a local school supply store, so when he has the second level down pat, I can buy the third level book, etc. I am trying to make it as fun as possible, because I adore reading soooo much, and want my children to also. My husband didnt learn to read until he was in public school around 1st grade and he hates it, his mom hated it and I think it kind of rubbed off on him, so I am so excited to see that Dylan is enjoying the process of learning and getting to help read books! Anyway, I just thought the book was cute and watned to share! Love, Jaelle |

We have had a good school day! We read 7 library books, including two on thanksgiving. WE did the elmo hokey pokey LOL!!Had circle time where we had prayer, did the first article of faith, and read in our "Emily's 100 days of school book" day 24. Wow, 24 days of school! Fun!! For gospel we learned the word "contention" and talked about a 3 step plan to eliminating contention in our home. Marlee worked on her numbers and counting, then played with the rubber band pattern board. Dylan worked on the rubber band pattern board too, and did 2 phonics folder games and read.........32 words all by himself!!!!!!!!!!! All in all it has been a great day!!! Love, Jaelle |

We have read about a million library books this week, and today we are hoping to finish the big stack! We read the cutest book called Thanksgiving Beast Feast, and we have decided to add that to our thanksgiving traditions. This will be the first time that I have thanksgiving here at our house! I am so excited that I can't hardly stand it and we are going to be doing alot of fun activities on thanksgiving for school. The thanksgiving beast feast will be fun because we will be putting out dried cranberries, nuts, pinecones with peanut butter and seeds on it and an orange hanging from the clotheslines! A beast feast! Super fun! This week we are excited about school. Hopefully we will have a great week. Dylan and Sydney are both sick with bad sinus infections so they are coughing and hoarse and cranky, but we will still have fun! Even if we just read alot of books! |
|
For school last week we went on a nature walk! We collected leaves, pinecones, etc and did crayon rubbing on the leaves. Pretty! We had a pretty laid back week, which i love. They did a gospel lesson on Love at Home. We had a lot of books we read, and we have had sooo many activities going on, at library, church, etc. so that has been fun. Check out my yahoo 360 page for all the pics on our every day going ons. Just email me and I will add you to my list. I keep it pretty updated on our day to day activities. momtothreebabies@aol.com Today we went to PBS kids fun time station. Super fun!!! Next week we will be back to a normal school schedule. That will be fun too! |

We are really excited! We joined the Quincy Area Christian Home Educators group across the river, and we will be joining in on all the fun starting friday! Dylan will be going to a neat thing every friday afternoon, they have a 45 minute class, then a half hour structured gym time with a game , then another 45 minute class. The parents take turns teaching the classes and they can be about anything and everything! I am so excited for him. It is also exciting for the girls, because the lady that runs this particular group k-3, has a 4 and 2 year old also, so we are going to bring them all and let them join in the fun! So they will all get to make friends! They also have a preschool activity once a month that the girls can go to ( dylan to probably) they have alot of neat activities so we are excited. This week is busy. Keith's sister is here from Utah so we have been spending time with them and our niece Kenlee who is 8 is spending the afternoon and night with us tomorrow then going to the libraries halloween party with us. We are going to make Halloween cut out cookies and decorate them, and just have a fun time! This week for homeschool has been relaxed again. I really enjoy it. We have been reading about the post office, and the moon! Fun stuff! We are all enjoying it and learning so much. I am going to try and see if we can take a tour of our post office sometime next week, because we have read so many books on how it works, etc and even made our own little post office and sent letters to each other! We have enjoyed learning about the moon, including learning how to sign "moon" in sign language. I am going to do a scrapbook page on it, have the kids signing the word moon, then have pics of the moon and describe what we have been doing for school! Well, we have a busy few days, with Kenlee spending the night, the library party, then saturday night is our church's trunk or treat activity, then sunday is the childrens primary program!!! Gee whiz! So much to do! With Love, Jaelle |

What's one of your favorite music albums and why? Ok, my absolute favorite of all time is Silverchairs Neon Ballroom , but that is not a very mommy like answer, lol, so I will put that I adore the Disney Musical Newsies, the soundtrack to that. Today was so fun! We went to the library across the river, it is awesome. They had a storytime on fire safety, they read books on being a firefighter then they had real live firefighters come visit!! They did the neatest thing, they had all the kids give "firefighter scott" a hug, then they watched him put on his full uniform including the mask etc and then they all had to give him another hug in uniform, and they told the kids, if you see someone in your house that looks like this, dont be afraid and run, go give the guy a hug, if your house in on fire! That was such a neat idea to me, because marlee was kind of freaked out by his appearance in the full uniform with the mask and it scared her the way he was breathing with his mask, so it helped her to be able to see him with it off and on, and give him a hug. Then they went outside to see the fire engine and they all took turns sitting in the drivers seat and they got to see them turn the lights on. Then the all went back inside read another story then made paper fireman helmets with "official badges" with their names on them. Before they left the firemen gave the kids a firefighters trading card that had one of the firefighters picture on it and their "stats". It was so fun! Afterwards my kids played some computer games at the library then they picked out books. Soo fun! We came home and jumped on the trampoline and colored. Good day all around!! Love, Jaelle |

Ok, at this point I am jumping for joy!!!! This evening we will be watching a dvd on sign language. We are trying to learn basic signs together. So that will be fun. I am just so pleased with homeschooling. I love it and it works well for our family. Yesterdays gospel lesson was on reverence and today we are going to practice feeling and being reverent for 3 minutes while we listen to church music. Conference is this weekend so our primary president is so sweet, she dropped off some little worksheets on conference, etc for the kids to color while we watch conference. Exciting!!! We are also going to be trying to finish working on the house some this weekend. Sooo busy but we have to try and take advantage of the days that Keith has off. With Love, Jaelle, the mother of a five year old who can read!!!!!!!! |

We are celebrating our 10th official day of school! Yay!
We have been very relaxed this week with school and it has been great! I feel better about school and so do the kids, we actually get more work done and it is a great feeling of happiness. We are concentrating on getting Marlee to count. She can count to 100 memorized , but doesnt have meaningful counting, so we are working hard on that. We have been reading counting books galore, counting everything in sight, watching counting movies, doing counting poems, and tommorrow we will be playing counting games. Anything we can think of! She is really starting to get the hang of it and that is awesome!!!!! I am hoping to do some more phonics work with dylan today and some gospel things. that will probably be it! Love, Jaelle |
|
I can't believe that we are finished with our second week of school!!! We kind of relaxed a bit, that has helped I think. We are having more fun. I am not pushing the kids to finish every single piece of work that I had planned, we are going by what is best for them. It has been wonderful! I am really loving it. Here are some highlights for the week. The kids finished their All About Me booklets, they are soo cute, I am sticking them in their scrapbooks! They are just to adorable not to! Dylan has been working hard in math on using the more than/ less than symbols, and writing his numbers all the way up to 20. He is doing great! For phonics and reading he has been working hard on learning sequencing and has also been doing simple spelling and writing!! He is on the road to reading! We are looking into getting him a good reading program and he will just soar!!! For science he had his first ever test. He aced it perfectly in like 5 seconds! He was prepared!! He did great. The questions were, where does a plant get its food, what do plants need to grow, name 2 seeds you can eat, name other plant parts you can eat, and what does irrigate mean. then he had to label the parts of a flower and a tree. He did awesome!! smart cookie! This week we are learning about the seasons. We have read the textbook part, and we are reading books from the library about the different seasons. He is really enjoying it. For literature we have been continuing reading poetry, and next week we are going to try our hand at writing a poem! I am excited to see what he comes up with! History and Geography have been fun, he has done well with the continents and this week we have really focused on history, learning about the american flag. He will have a small quiz on monday about the flag, how many stripes, stars, what colors etc, and he will recite the pledge of allegiance. Health has been about eating good foods, being healthy. Marlee has been trucking along in doing her worksheets on colors, shapes, and numbers. She has been working very hard this week on meaningful counting. I think that it is going to take a while, because of her autism, but today she actually stopped counting at 6, when we had 6 bears lined up!! what a huge step!!! School has been good this week, and I am thankful for it! It is friday now! So no more school until monday, then we will work hard and try to not miss any days! LOL, we missed one this week, but still did great! Love, Jaelle |

Well, I am now able to look back on the first official week of school. I can see where we need to make some definite changes, and I know that we will probably have to continue to make changes throughout the year, to find what fits best for our family. All in all, it went well. I am thankful for the opportunity to homeschool my children. I know with all my heart that it will be best for my special children. It is defintely making my household run differently too, and I think it will only get better from here on out. I crave routines, and get so much more done with schedules and routines, and having certain things that we do each day for school, is making my life better, because I can see my kids learning, and I know they are learning the gospel, etc. That is my main goal. So here are a few neat things that we did this week. We started a little booklet for our theme " all about me " it is so dang cute, it has little things like what does your home look like, and they draw a pic, etc. and I have been sooo pleasantly surprised at some of the kids' answers to the questions. Like What is your favorite game? I thought for sure Dylan would say Candyland, because that boy makes me play that game a million times a week, but he said hide and seek! LOL. Science has been super fun for Dylan . We have learned about plants, what they eat, how they grow, labeling parts of the plant and tree, etc. He cracked me up when I asked him the question " when I say the word plants, what do you think of?" and he said " things I am allergic too!!" what a funny guy!! He has his first science test ( well, really his first test ever, lol) on monday and he is soo excited! He had his dad help him study yesterday, which was cool to see Keith be involved and Dylan blew him away with how he knew all the answers, like " what does irrigate mean?" LOL. What a smart kid!!! For math we have been tackling ordinal numbers ( first second third etc) and I think he is finally getting the hang of it. It was alot harder for him than I thought it would be. He's a math whiz, adding, subtracting, etc and can count to 100 etc., but when I introduced something completely new, it was refreshing to watch him have to be taught something! He seems at times, to just already know how to do it all, so it was cool to be able to actually teach him something! We are also working on writing numbers 11-20. He is doing well and really enjoys it. Gospel lessons this week have been the story of Jonah, complete with popsicle stick puppets, LOL and we started working in the book of mormon prophets book from lds harvest. They colored a picture of Lehi and we started learning some neat facts on him and also about jerusalem at the time of his life. very cool stuff! Phonics and reading, we have been doing worksheet after worksheet on beginning consonants, etc and we will be starting early spelling cat, dog, etc and reading. We have been working hard on the phonics , and now actually get to start the fun stuff, reading!!!! History and geography have been fun this week. We are working on things like, the world is a circle / globe shape, their are different continents, countries, etc. and he is learning the names of the continents and he helped me to color a map of the continents. Next week we will take a continent a day ( of course this will go on into the week after too) and just learn something neat and unique about each one. Pretty darn cool! He is also learning about us history, about the flag, etc. We are going slow with this, because he is so excited about the continents and maps, etc, that I dont want to overload him with learning the history of the us at the same time. So we are going slow. LOL We have been talking about what it means to be trustworthy. We talked about being good friends, loyal, etc. We will continue this next week with some activities. For health we have been talking about having good habits and we are starting to learn about eating healthy. Marlee has had a fun first week. We did some really fun activities that I have found on various internet sites, like making a little panda out of circles, to learn about circles, and I had her sit at the chalkboard with a cup of water and a paintbrush and I wrote out the letters A, B, and C and she "erased" them with her water and paintbrush. She loved that. Ok, My hand is tired. LOL. I still have a billion things to do around here LOL. plus school to plan for next week, but I am looking forward to it! Love, Jaelle

My little boy is reading!!! We have been working hard on doing phonics worksheets and getting a good grasp on what letter makes what sound, etc, then last week we started working on the little phonics tiles that come in a bucket, and we would try spelling out simple words such as cat, ran, jump, etc. So today we went to starfall.com which I absolutely recommend to anyone and everyone out there, and he did two activities and then read an entire beginning reader on there, all by himself!!! He actually read his first book all by himself!!! YAY DYLAN!!! He is now completing two worksheets that we printed off of the website to go along with the words he learned from the book, etc. and he is doing them now. School is going well. He is doing math today and also we will be doing a science quiz on weather. He is learning about what weather is and about temperature. That is what the quiz will be about today. Monday we will begin learning about different kinds of weather. We will also be watching a dvd today about the seasons. We learned a little about the seasons a couple of weeks ago, and we just joined this new library and they amazing informational dvd's and we found a neat one on seasons and they also have one on weather, so after we finish learning about weather we will watch the dvd.
