Home Grown Hearts

Another week done.....Woo-Hoo!!!

Ok, so this week wasn't as productive as the other three...but we still got done the basics. In our first week we did all our subjects, the other weeks we just did the basics (and some writing assignments). We even did a dissection of a worm! The worm dissection was ok...not as exciting as I hoped. But we did find a neat website that had some fun information about worms on it. I was hoping to find something like that for our grasshopper study but no such luck.

So sometime this week I have to get to the library to find books on grasshoppers....so we can get that study done. I also need to find some living books on Ancient civilizations. A few I need to find for our homeschool co-op, and some I just would like to have the kids read.

What my plans are for the upcoming weeks is to get more of our subjects done....we are ahead in math, LA, and writing; but a little behind in science & history. So I need to focus on those. And then I will add in the extra curricular things like sewing and cooking...but those shouldn't be too big of a deal.

Other than that, the first few weeks are going pretty well. I have Piper and Riley doing K work, about 2-3 times a week. That is strictly workbooks, they of course get lots of time on their computer games.....but shhhhh! don't tell them that those are educational games too!

Kiera is doing 8th grade work, Kodi is doing 5th, and Jacob is doing 3rd grade. We go to the store every Tues. to do our 'Grocery Cart Math'....which is a nice break from the everyday work. Another break we get is on Fridays, with a program we use called 'Cozy Grammar'. It is part dvd and part worksheet. It only takes about 20 mins to do....it is pretty basic, but the kids enjoy it and seem to understand it really well.

So, next week grasshopper study/dissection and ancient civilizations!

My 8 year old LOVES dissections! The grasshopper will be infinately more interesting for you than the worm. Our coolest yet have been a cow eye and a sheep heart. Our mailman most like thinks were satanists - rofl!

Good to see your blog!

Ohh - you're much braver than me!
I think we'll go the 'virtual' disection route!
You have a great blog!
