Our 1st Lapbook
Posted in Lapbooks
My daughter and I have
completed our 1st lapbook! It was so fun! She just turned 5
and has recently developed a interest in money, or more
specifically collecting money for the poor. So I decided to
exploit her interest and teach her a little about money.
Cover
To
make her lapbook we used 3 folders. One was trifolded and the
other 2 were left half folded. We placed the trifold folder on
the right side flap of one of the folders and then glued the 3rd folder
to the back of the trifold folder. On the 1st folder we took a
piece of cardstock and sewed 3 ziplock bags onto it making a little
booklet. Inside I got some worksheets about money from this
website
http://heartlandbank.com/discovery/activity.html
We placed 2 worksheets in each ziploc bag (back to back) to make a
total of 6 pages. On the trifold folder we did a little worksheet
on matching coins to there amounts. We also put an actual coin
next to each drawing of a coin and a dollar bill at the bottom.
On the flaps we put poems and song I found online about money. Here are the ones we used:
What I'v Got
5 pennies make a nickle
2 nickles make a dime
2 dimes and a nickel make a quarter everytime.
4 quarters make a dollar
and that is quite a lot.
And a dollar in my pocket
Is exactly what I'v got!
Piggy Bank (For this one my daughter drew a piggy bank to go with it.)
Don't Ask Dad...He never has any.
Grandma's purse has a nickel and a penny,
Mom has a 5, but the car needs gas.
Here's a dirty quarter I found in the grass!
Checked all our pockets...nothing but gum.
Piggy bank, piggy bank, here I come!
What's It Worth Penny, penny
Easily spent,
Copper brown
And worth one cent.
Nickel, nickel
Thick and fat.
You're worth 5 cents
I know that!
Dime, dime
Little and thin,
I remember
You're worth ten.
Quarter, quarter
Big and bold,
You're worth twenty-five
I am told!
In the back folder we put copies of a 1, 5, 10 and 20 dollar bill.
It was sooooo much fun to make together and I know we will go back to
this lapbook again and again to refresh her memory about money.

Ziploc Bag Book

Final folder with copies of bills
The coloring sheets we found for this project came from a really great
site. It is a search engine for coloring sheets. It goes
through 6992 coloring sheets to find what you are looking for.
All you do is put in a key word like "money". It's awesome!
Here is the link:
Ivy's Coloring Page Search Engine Well, that is our 1st attempt at lapbooking. I don't know if we did it "right", but we sure had fun!

We have done one lapbook and my girls loved it. We did it on "All About Me" they drew picutes wrote, it list favorites, weigh, height, and the cover has a picture of them...
This is a great one. In fact we are working on money right now also. We use Saxon Math K right now so we have covered pennies and dimes so this will work out great. The links for the worksheets and the songs arew awesome! Another great idea from you! I think this is officially my favorite blog!

I had never even heard of these before, till I saw your site the other day. I really like that. Do you know of other topics we could do? I'm a real creative type, as long as I have a direction to go in.
My sister is homeschooling her daughter for the first time this year, and I told her about your site and your fun ideas. I'm hoping she'll join the blog, when she sees how much fun it is (except, she has more of a life than I do, so who knows!)

Hello new friend :) I see you added me to your friends list so I thought I'd pop over and say hi and check out your blog.
Cool lapbooks! I've always been intrigued with lapbooks but have never done them. Now my kids think they are "too old and cool" to do a lapbook. Oh to have littles again :)
I'll be adding you to my friends list so I can check back often. I'm looking forward to browsing your blog.
