My 11 year old son has completed his 1st lapbook!! He has been studying Shakespeare this year, so it was easy to make this the topic of his 1st lapbook. The research was already done.On the cover he put a picture of Shakespeare, a copy of Shakespeare Signature and a bunch of Shakespearean quotes

To build the lapbook we used 1 trifolded folder. In the middle inside part I sewed 6 ziploc bags onto piece of cardstock to make 6 lift flaps. On the side flaps we used 3 folded pieces of cardstock on each side. (For a total of 6 flaps.)

For the 6 ziploc bag lift flaps my son choose 6 topics:
Who Is Shakespeare?
What Is A Tragedy?
What Is A Comedy?
What Are The Historical Plays?
The Language of Shakespeare
Shakespeare Today
When you lift up the flaps you get the information for the topic on the other side.

Here is what he wrote:
Who Is Shakespeare?
Shakespeare was a writer/poet that was born in the late 1500's. His plays are highly regarded as some of the greates of all time. Among these are Romeo and Juliet, MacBeth, Hamlet, Antony & Cleopatra, The Tempest, Richard III, Much Ado About Nothing and many more.
What Is A Tragedy?
A tragedy is a play with a sad ending. Examples are:
Romeo and Juliet
Titus Andonieus
The great tragedies were written at the height of his career. They were:
Hamlet
MacBeth
KingLear
Othello
What Is A Comedy?
Opposing a tragedy, a comedy is a play with happy ending. A comedy is not necessarily funny. Some comedies are:
Much Ado About Nothing
The Comedy of Errors
A Mid Summer's Night Dream
Twelfth Night
What Are The Historical Plays?
The Historical Plays were plays about...Well, History. They were historical events modified to be more dramatic. Examples are:
Antony & Cleopatra
Juilius Caesar
Coriolanus
The Language of Shakespeare
Shakespeare spoke in a way some of us might find a little strange. Examples are:
Alas, poor Yorick! I knew him well Horatio.
Come thee three corners of the world in arms.
He invented many words such as:
submerge, fretful, lonely, countless, leapfrog dwindle & barefaced
Shakespeare Today
Shakespeare still influences us today. I recently watched the musical Westside Story, it is the story of Romeo and Juliet set in 1950. In it two rival gangs, the Jets and the Sharks are having a gang war. When Tony of the Jets falls in love with the sister from the Sharks, Maria, they cannot stand it. And, it doesn't end well!
On the lift flaps he has pictures of stautes and paintings of Shakespeare and inside is the info on the art. He also has some everyday saying from Shakespeare and a picture of the Globe Theater. Lastly, he has a few Shakespearean Insults...He is an 11 year old boy after all!
