Radical Conservative?
Posted in Lessons I Have Learned
When did being conservative
become radical? I cannot believe how many things I do are
considered radical these days. I am a very conservative person in
my eyes, but I am starting to realize that to a good portion of the
world I am a radical! Let's look at some of my "radical"
behavior...
Being a Christian
Let's face it, this is a radical idea. Imagine people of
days gone by doing something as crazy as believing that Christ died for
their sins!
Stay at home Mom Let's
face it, this is a radical idea. Imagine people of days
gone by doing something as crazy as staying home with their own
children!
Homeschooling Let's
face it, this is a radical idea. Imagine people of days
gone by doing something as crazy as educating their own children!
Homebirth
Let's face it, this is a radical idea. Imagine people of
days gone by doing something as crazy as giving birth to their children
at home!
Breastfeeding
Let's face it, this is a radical idea. Imagine people of
days gone by doing something as crazy as long term breatfeeding their
children!
Natural Remedies Let's
face it, this is a radical idea. Imagine people of days
gone by doing something as crazy as using things from nature to heal
their children!
Cloth Diapers Let's face it, this is a radical idea. Imagine people of days gone by doing something as crazy as washing diapers!
Eating Organic Let's
face it, this is a radical idea. Imagine people of days
gone by doing something as crazy as eating food that is not full of
chemicals!
I could go on and on, but I think you get the idea!

There is a whole worldly side of folks that accept attachment parenting and homeschooling -- not just the Christians. But I am still with you... for the most part the things we advocate are conservative and from "old America"... and suddenly we are seen as people who are really "out there..." Who woulda thunk...? But on the bright side.. we're all in it together, even if from a distance!

This 'radical conservatives' is just a label by the liberal media to try to split society into camps--a them v. 'us normal, enlightened folks' segmentation. The group that calls themselves 'liberals' are actually anything but liberal. Those that call themselves liberals are actually often extremely biased and intolerant of those holding views different than their own, although they may preach tolerance. Worse yet, these folks that call themselves liberals more often than not act as the thought police in society--particularly on college campuses where young impessionable minds are in the process of forming lifetime philosophies.. How tragic!

I am not as radical as you are (four c-sections and dh would have fainted at the thought of cloth diapers....)but it does seem really funny that those things are thought of as weird. One would think that they would be much more normal than they are!

Hello. You posted to my blog today so I came to check yours out too. :)
I totally understand what you're saying here! We live on a farm, DH his self-employed, we homeschool, we observe Torah (as best we can), we grow our own food (as much as we can), and we are moving toward the naturopathic side of things too. Just don't fit the "average" mold!
People think we're weird. That's okay. Sometimes we think they're weird too. LOL

...but are you my long lost twin??? Everything you state as being radical, are things we do as well. Let's not forget to address the issue of vaccinations, practicing a family bed, or heaven forbid <sarcasm>, slinging our babies! You sound like you would fit in so well on my Crunchy Earth Mommies group! Glad to know there are other crunchy conservatives around! =o)
