The Dog Ate My Homework!

Posted in My Kids

Okay, I think I have found the homeschool equivalent of "The Dog Ate My Homework".  I have Bible Study on Thursday mornings and my husband stays home with the kids.  Wednesday night I told my 11 year old son before bed to make sure he got his Math done while I was at Bible Study. We had an end of year party for our History Co-op as soon as I got home.  On the way to the party I asked my son if he got his Math done.  He said "Mom, I had a slight problem.  The baby peed on my Math!"  LOL!  Apparently Dad thought it would be okay for the 2 year old to air out a bit and he went in and got on his older brothers bed "au natural" and managed to....Well, you know the rest of the story!  LOL  So the next time you hear "The dog ate my homework."  I hope you smile and remember the homeschool version of the saying!

"To the outside world we all grow old. But not to brothers and sisters. We know each other as we always were. We know each other's hearts. We share private family jokes. We remember family feuds and secrets, family griefs and joys. We live outside the touch of time."

Hilarious!! We've had the baby try to eat home work, but yours is priceless! Check out my last blog, Why I love Home Schooled Kids. I think you will appreciate it! I don't know how to make a link to it yet, but I am guessing you can click on my name.

ROTFLMTEO!

My sister's daughter actually had the dog (puppy) eat her homework... she tried to take back the repaired work and no one accepted it.

Homeschooling is much more excuse-friendly. ;)

Just dropped by your blog again! I could spend all night reading it. I am so glad I found HSB just as I was starting out on this homeschooling adventure. I have just printed out your post on "What qualifies me" I want to read over that again. I also printed out this excerpt from Spunkys post:
Proverbs 9:10
"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge of the Holy One understanding".

Proverbs 13:20 states
"He who walks with the wise becomes wiser still but the companion of fools suffers harm."

From Psalm 14:1,
"The fool has set in his heart that there is no God"

Proverbs 22:15,
"foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child."

Luke 11:23
"He who is not with Me is against me and He who does not gather with me scatters."

Deuteronomy 6:5-7
Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

Deuteronomy 6:13-14
"Fear the LORD your God, serve him only and take your oaths in his name. Do not follow other gods, the gods of the peoples around you."

Mathew 18:6
"But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea."

In short, Dr. West, we homeschool because we believe the Bible. I do not homeschool out of fear of man but out of love for Christ and His Word. God has ordained his Word and given it to us to follow. It you would like to call that evil and follow after the state schools (which believe that there is no God) as good then I ask; who is the theologian of the cross and who is the theologian of glory?

A ( very good and well meaning friend) cautined me before I withdrew Gabriel from school. She wanted to know what my "drivers" were. What hidden need in myself was I satisfying in taking my child out of school? It was a good question. It unsettled me at first as it implied that I was driven more by my own need than his. But it made me ponder...
As I did I realised that my "need" and that of my children are inextricably linked. More than anyone ( other than their daddy) I have a vested interest in them. I know when they need a strong guiding hand. I want to show mercy and have compassion on them when they fall. I want to model for them the love of their heavenly father. I don't always do this at all well. But I WANT to do that. I want to re commit myself daily to doing that.Blogs like yours remind me, and inspire me. His mercies are new every morning!
