Tuesday my oldest son and I had the oppotunity to go on a field trip to the FBI. Wow, is the best thing I can say! I love being able to make a lot of field trips a part of my kids education. I know that the book work we do is important, but field trips really make their learning come alive! I would have never even imagined that a place like the FBI would offer field trips, but our homeschool group is blessed to have an amazing Mom who schedules our field trips. She comed up with the BEST ideas. We were on a waiting list for about 6 months to get in, but it was well worth the wait! When we arrived we watched a video about the history of the FBI. This was very interesting to learn about how the Agency came to be and all the changes that have taken place through the years. The they had 2 Special Agents as well as 2 support staff come in and talk to the kids about what they actaully do. The kids and they Moms were allowed to ask LOTS of questions! Then one of the agents who specializes in Polygraph Tests brought in his laptop and took a few kids up at a time to show them how a test is read and showed them the actual device people are hooked up to for the test. After that we got to go into the Weapons Vault! Most of our group was boys, so you can imagine how well this went! The kids where shown a variety of weapons used by the FBI and were even able to try on Bullet Proof Vests! The Special Agent that gave us the tour of the Weapons Vault is part of the SWAT team, so he had a lot of great information for the kids. It was an awesome day! One of my favorite things was actually our name tags. When we arrived each of us where given a stick on name tag when you pulled it off the backing paper it activated some kind of chemical in the paper. Two hours later bright red word EXPIRED appeared across the front of the tag! I wonder what other cool technology they use that they didn't tell us about? LOL
I assumed they wouldn't let me take pictures inside, but I was wrong!
