Long ago when I had only one child I made up these Math Games. My son and I had a blast playing them. Now as I am preparing for my daughter to start Kindergarten I am going through all the things I did with my oldest. Here are a few of our favorites!Money Bingo

I used cardboard from the backs of cereal boxes and made my Bingo cards.
Then we use real money as the markers. For the dollar bills I bought play money at the Dollar Tree and folded the bill to fit on the square.
For the caller (me!) to draw from I wrote on small pieces of the leftover cardboard. .1 cent, penny, .5 cents, nickle, .10 cents, dime, 25 cents, quarter & dollar. I put all the pieces of the cardboard in a ziploc bag and then I draw from the bag and call the amounts.
The winner is the one to cover up a whole row and call out Money Bingo first!
Add or Subtract It

For this one I wrote numbers on circle stickers and put them randomly on a piece of cardstock. Then we would roll 2 dice and a + & - dice. (I bought blank dice at the school supply store and wrote on them with a Sharpie. You could also use a coin and write + on one side and - on the other.) You add up or subtact the numbers. Then you cover the number on the cardstock with your color poker chip. Whoever has the most numbers covered in the end wins!
Mix & Match

For this one I made little clocks (I used a stamp I got at the school supply store and then reuced them on the copy machine.) I wrote a time on each clock and then the same time in another square. We used a 12 sided dice. Whatever number you roll is for the hour. You then have to find a time for that hour and the matching digital time. Cover both with a poker chip. Whoever has the most covered when they are all covered wins!
Telling Time Game

For this one I stamped the clocks on a piece of cardstock. Then I laminated it with clear contact paper. (All of these games except Money Bingo are laminated this way.) We roll the dice for the hour and then I made the spinner card with the minutes. Once you have rolled and spun you have to write the time on your card. When the cards are full Mom checks to see if all the times are correct. Everyone whos card is correct wins!
At our house the kids get prizes from the "treasure box" in the schoolroom. I have stickers, tatoos, candy (sometimes), eraser, etc. When they win a game or need some encouragement I send them to the treasure box.
I bet you never thought you would be using poker chips to teach your kids! You just never know what you may end up doing if you visit my blog often enough! LOL
