Posted in Lessons I Have Learned
My oldest son had a neat opportunity yesterday! My husband came home from work about a week ago telling us that an episode of a Reality TV show was going to be taped at his work. (Bizarre, I know.) Anyway, it just happens that we have watched these people before on TV, so my son was pretty excited about it when his Dad told him that he was going to get to go see the filming. He had a GREAT time! Although it was probably not THE most educational thing he's ever done, it was a very special memory he made with his Dad. I couldn't help but think how fortunate we are that he is not in school. Had he not been homeschooled he would not have had the opportunity to go hang out with Dad at work on a school day. This is one of the things I love most about homeschooling. Making memories. I will never forget once when this same son was about 5. It was the middle of the day and we were out in the backyard. I was weeding and he was playing with a big tray of rice, writing his letters and numbers in it. All of the sudden my son looked over at me and said "Mom, do you know what we are doing?" I said "What?" He replied "We're making memories!" How I treasure this moment, and how correct he was! Yes, we value education at our home. We also value time spent together and the memories and relationships we are building in our home. I am so greatful that homeschooling allows us to do both!
