Highlighter Handwriting
Posted in My Homeschool FAQs
Here is how I make customized handwriting worksheets for my little ones....
Take a yellow highlighter and write out whatever you want on regular notebook paper. Bible verse, dictation, letters and numbers, anything goes. Then your child can easily write over it with pencil. This is much cheaper that buying those little workbooks with the letters written out in dots. It can also be customized with whatever they are currently learning.
My oldest son had a lot of trouble learning to write. (He is a left brained scientific type! Have you ever seen a Doctor with good handwriting? LOL) This helped him SO MUCH! I wrote out his Sonlight dictation this way up until about third grade. This was the only way he could get through the dictation, which I felt was important.
My 5 year old daughter LOVES to write! She also loves those little workbooks and can go through 1 a day at least! Using this highlighter method I can have her write out anything she wants. She can write out her Awana verses, friends names, her own funny quotes, or just her ABC's over and over.
And just because I can't resist an adorable face with orange frosting all over it....
It was a VERY good cupcake! LOL

You do always have such great ideas. I'm new to homeschooling and I've been reading your posts avidly to learn more. You've helped me feel more confident that I CAN actually do this and that it can actually be fun.

I'm going to get a little yellow marker and do this for my 7 year old who is having trouble mastering cursive. I don't think I could get a reg. highlighter small enough but a marker would do. Thanks for this idea and for the squirrel pictures. I can't get over how cute they are! I can't wait until I talk to my "squirrel" friend tonight and she checks her email!
