mamaduso stopped by my blog the other night and left me some awesome information on a unit study she had found online. It is called Good Christian Men Rejoice and is a study of the following songs:GOOD CHRISTIAN MEN REJOICE
O COME, O COME, EMMANUEL
ANGELS FROM THE REALMS OF GLORY
THOU DIDST LEAVE THY THRONE
SILENT NIGHT
AWAY IN A MANGER
JOY TO THE WORLD
COME TH0U LONG-EXPECTED JESUS
HARK! THE HERALD ANGELS SING
O LITTLE TOWN OF BETHLEHEM
WHILE SHEPHERDS WATCHED THEIR FLOCKS
IT CAME UPON A MIDNIGHT CLEAR
THE FIRST NOEL
I HEARD THE BELLS ON CHRISTMAS DAY
WE THREE KINGS

She was wondering if I had any ideas on how to make it into a lapbook. It looks to me like this would make a wonderful lapbook! Here is what I came up with:
There are already lessons set out for each of the songs. The one thing I thought would be fun to do is to make a mini book for each song and to make it in a shape that represented the song. (Example: Silent Night- Star, Away In The Manger- Manger, Hark, The Hearld Angels Sing - Angel., etc.) Then inside each book I would put the suggested lessons that are in the study. There are a lot of great ideas already included. Like for Good Christian Men Rejoice they suggest you make a birth announcement for Jesus! How cute would that be to include in a lapbook! I would also put some basic information about each song (Who wrote it, where was it written, etc.) and maybe even include the first stanza or the Chorus of the song. I am thinking maybe it would be a good idea to make each booklet rather large. Maybe this would be better as a notebook than a lapbook? We have not tried notebooking yet, but I did see a cute idea awhile back to wrap the actual notebook in wrapping paper and ribbon making it look like a gift. I was thinking this would be really cute to incorporate with this one. Another thing you could do is go to the Scrapbooking store and get paper that looks like sheet music. That would make really adorable backgrounds and matting for the mini books. Or you could decorate the outside to look like a music folder and then have pages inside that looked like what a choir would be holding when they were singing the hymns.
Oh, my mind is swimming with possibilites! Thanks so much mamaduso for leading me to this GREAT unit study! Hope a few of these ideas will get you headed off to make this one into a lapbook!
