Hooray! My 6 year old Kindergartner is reading!!! I have been saying for MONTHS that the only reason she was not reading yet was because I have been holding her back! This school year has been a huge Roller Coaster ride for our family. Job changes and an impending move to another State are just the beginning of all the chaos that has happened around here. I started out the year doing Sing, Spell, Read and Write with her. She loved it and learned the songs quickly. But, then I got overwhelmed and somehow we quit doing it. Then I picked up Teach Your Child To Read in 100 Easy Lessons at a Thrift Store. She was patient with me and we did the first 50 lessons. But quite honestly, she did not want lessons. She wanted to read! Still among the zillion of things I have had to do this year I just didn't sit with her everyday and let her read. She had learned all her letter sounds from the SSR&W CD and the LeapFrog Letter Factory DVD. She also knows most of the Phonics rules and blend sounds from the CD and DVD. All that she needed was a few hours of my time! LOL So...After seeing how well her 5 & 6 year old cousins were reading when we were in San Diego she MADE me find the time! The last week we have been sitting down everyday reading. She is doing GREAT! She can read the Dick and Jane books, lots of Dr. Suess, Biscuit, and about any other book that is on that beginning reader level. She is awesome at sounding out words and putting them together. She remembers the phonics rules very well. She's READING!
Whoo Hooo! This is the kind of thing that makes a homeschool Mom do the happy dance! LOL
