I woke up yesterday and it was raining. Rain in the desert is about as rare as...well...rain in the desert! So I decided it was a good day to put a BIG pot of soup on the stove and spend the day sewing!
I bought this gathered dress fabric a few weeks ago so my 6 year old could sew her own dress. She just loves to sew and wants to make things all the time. So far we have made aprons, bags, pillows, pillow cases and other simple, square objects. But, I knew she would love it if she could make something she could really wear!
Here she is sewing the seam down the back of the dress.

Look at those little hands! So precious...
This little girl never cease to amaze me at how capable she is! Sewing at 6!
Removing pins

Pressing the fabric to make the straps

Turning the straps right side out

Sewing on the straps

Proud of her finished dress!

After she finished her dress I made a little matching one for Hello Kitty. It is made out of the scraps and is really more of an apron than a dress. Luckily Hello Kitty already owned a cute pair of pink panties to wear under it! LOL
After the dresses were done I made my 3 year old the Underdog cape he has been asking about for several weeks now. It is made from scraps left over from a Halloween costume of years gone by. He is very happy with it!
In his best Underdog pose!

Showing off his U for Underdog on the back

In case anyone is a major Underdog fan...Yes, I realize that Underdogs cape is really blue. But, I had red on hand and my 3 year old doesn't see to mind! So shhhh no one tells him, okay? LOL

When our girls get together, you must give us all lessons! My girls would love to learn from your girl! And they would just have the best time sorting through the piles of unused fabric I have!!! It is so awesome that you are passing on your crafty creativity to your kiddos! Wow!

I even subscribed to it and am impressed by all that you do and all that you write about. Getting your little girl to sew is wonderful - you are inspiring me to do likewise (my younger girls are 10 and 8).
Hope you can write one more blog today - I tagged you. smile Check out my Aug. 2nd blog for more details. Thanks!

Oh, I love your little girl's dress! And, Hello Kitty's, too. I am just learning to sew myself and am helping my 6yo dd, too. Earlier this week, we got the machine out again and she made a pencil case - her 3rd. :-) We have been planning for about 6 weeks to make her a tote. Maybe we'll get it done this week? I can't make a dress yet, so I guess we won't be doing that for awhile. - Dana, www.alexml.blogspot.com (who, by the way, signs this way because I've never been able to become a member of homeschoolblogger and have finally given up - I have no idea what the problem is)

I have one of those dress panels for Paige to do, also. I hope we get to it before summer is over!

I just now am getting around to reading your post. This is the strangest thing. I had two of these panels given to me about a month ago. I'm just today getting around to making them. I tried to talk my DD into waiting until next year, but she insisted they are for this year. Now she didn't sew them, but she did help pick out buttons for them. I had also made her a dress for her favorite dolly.
On another note, her brother and her had been sewing paper on their machines all day. I had told them last night that today we would sew while daddy was out of town. They are into learning, so I have my fingers crossed. Your daughter is really talented....just like her mama.
