I got to go to a homeschool meeting last night and share our lapbooks with some new homeschool parents! WHAT FUN!!!! I love lapbooking and Sonlight and Math-U-See and how I am able to incorporate them all into our homeschool. There is really nothing better than getting to share it with other parents and see them get excited about the possibility of using something like this with their children! I remember once a long time ago talking to a Pastor at church about what ministry I should be in and he said he would know when I had found the right one when my face lit up when I talked about it! Well, the same thing applies to curriculum for homeschoolers! I have talked to A LOT of homeschool parents over the last 11 years and I can tell you I can always tell if they are using the right curriculum by the look on their face when they talk about it! If they are using something because it was, cheap, the husbands cousin loaned it to them, they got it free through a Charter, their neighbor told them it was the best thing ever, etc, etc, etc. then I can ask them what curriculum they are using and they say "ZZYZZ" kind of ho-hum. It's almost as if it almost pains them to think about it. Usually a little shrug of the shoulders is included. But, if they are LOVING what they are using they tell me the name with a big SMILE and then proceed to tell me why the chose it and what they LOVE about it! It is SO fun to talk with a parent who is jazzed about what they are doing with their kids for school! So as we start the new school year I would just encourage everyone to make sure you have found a way to teach your children that you LOVE! If you are not lighting up and wanting to talk when asked about your curriculum (Or if you are an unschooler whatever the equivalent teaching materials you use.) then keep looking! Ask questions. Find someone that reminds you of yourself and ask what they like and don't like. Homeschooling should and can be a joyful experience! We are SO blessed these days with a potpourri of resources to chose from. Don't give up, you will find it. When you do you will find that you are having as much or more fun learning than your kids are!
Thank you muchly for the frog disecting link - I think my kids will really enjoy this!
I also wanted to say that there have been many times that I've wanted to write you to say how much I appreciate you sharing your days with us, the blog readers/friends and have never gotten around to it. Your blog entry today is a good reminder to me that it's important to tell people you appreciate them because one never knows how it could make someones day or help them through a rough patch.
So for the many months I have read your blog anonymously, here's what I want to tell you. For me, you are an amazing mom and women who is so full of the zest for life. You inspire me to make lemonade on the days I seem to have lemons and although we don't know each other, you are in my thoughts often. I read your blog entries
faithfully whenever I get a message in my inbox and they always brighten my day ... I've even shared them with my husband. My comment is usually something like "Isn't she amazing?!" and he agrees that you've got something special goin' on :-)
We have homeschooled our children from the start and we love every minute of it! This is my place to share my thoughts on homeschooling, my kids and living for the Lord. All the while being a little outside the box!!
