Do you remember Cootie Catchers? I remember Cootie Catchers well! When I was a little girl my cousins use to make them and then scare the pants off me with there dire predictions of the future! (You will be killed in a car accident, You will never marry, etc.) So even though they are fun to fold and play with I have stayed clear of teaching my kids about these little fortune telling devices! So imagine my surprise when I went to pick up my 6 year old from her Wednesday night G-Force class at church and she was playing with a Cootie Catcher! Luckily, for the purposes of the class they had changed the idea of the Cootie Catcher. Instead of telling your "fortune" these were used to teach the kids a lesson about obeying. So whatever it said inside you had to do! (10 jumping jacks, shake hands, spin around 5 times, etc.) My daughter is having a blast with her new toy! Of course this got me thinking.....What else could we make into a Cootie Catcher?
Basically you could put anything you want where the prediction of the future would normally go. So today we brain stormed and came up with these ideas...
10 Commandments Review - There are 8 places to write so under each flap you could write a couple of Commandments. For example: "Commandment 2 & 7." Then the person who picked it would have to tell you what those 2 commandments are.
Awana Verse Review - Write John 3:16 and etc. under the flaps and then you would have to recite whatever Awana verse the numbers represented. (As a long time Awana leader I wish i would have thought of this before!)
Math Fact Review - Write math problems under the folds. You know the ones your kids really need to work on!
Spelling review - Write spelling words under the folds.
Addition to a Lapbook! - Make a pocket to hold it, they will fold flat to store. You could put anything you wanted to on it that related to your lapbook topic. (This is one of my favorite ideas! I can't wait to try this one!)
Birthday Cards - Have the kids write something nice about the Birthday person under each flap!
Journaling for a Scrapbook page - Wouldn't that be cool! You could tuck it in a little pocket and then it would have to be taken out and played with to read the journaling.
We are going to have a lot of FUN with these! Why did I never think of this before????
