The best cure I have found for overcoming the midwinter blues in our homeschool is to do something FUN! Here are some ideas for free activities will boost you out of the blues!
Teach Art At Home is a great website where you can either select from the projects on the website or sign up for the newsletter and get a free lesson plan sent to you via email each month.
Linerider.com is a fun site where you can spend some time creating your own line rider tracks! This is LOTS of fun! You create an online track using a pencil and then let a boy ride his sled on the track you drew. Be careful, it's easy to crash! You can create landscapes, ramps, hills and more. Use your imagination! There are also lots of videos of other peoples creations to watch. If you have kids who like to design things on the computer they will LOVE this!
The Cooking with Kids website offers many great recipes to enjoy in the kitchen with your kids. They even have Easy Bake Oven recipes! (Nothing brightens a winter day more than an Easy Bake Oven! LOL)
Visit the Animal Cams at the Smithsonian National Zoological Park. You can see 20 different animals live on camera!
Play some online games that help you learn about the Bible. (My favorite is Bible Hangman with the books of the Old and New Testament.)
I hope you found something here that will help you and your kids refocus and get ready for the rest of the school year. Now go make some hot chocolate and enjoy this midwinter day!
Happy Homeschooling,
~Jamin
