My daughter is memorizing the books of the old testament this year for Awana. Last year she memorized the books of the new testament. Memorizing them in order is one thing. But, knowing at a glance whether they are old or new testament is another? This is something I still struggle with myself. I mean I ma pretty good with the major ones. (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Act, Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, etc.) But, when you come to the ones like Amos, Micah or Philemon, well then I have to really wrack my brain! So I wanted her to learn them not only in order, but know at a glance where they are when she sees the name.
So I made this sorting folder to help her.
Here is the cover:
Inside: Yep, I couldn't resist using a little duct tape! LOL
Cards:
There are several things she can do with these besides sort the books of the Bible. She can also practice putting them in order and use them to learn to properly spell the books of the Bible. (Another thing I am not that great at! LOL) I also numbered them on the backs, so once she has them in order she can look at the numbers to self check.
I love that idea.
What I did was take two buckets and ping pong balls. I wrote the names of the books each on a ping pong ball and we have an old testament bucket and a new.

I noticed your cards are laminated...do you farm out your laminating or do you have your own laminator? If you have your own...what do you have? I debate daily on buying one!
I am in the process of making something just like this! Wow, great minds think alike, huh? I am also adding extra info to the backside like who wrote the book ( if it is known), around what year was it written, and what is the main purpose(s) of the book. It didn't occur to me to number them but I will definitely do that now.
Hi Jamin!
Thanks for all the homeschool info on your blog. My dd age 8.5 wants a Bible sorting folder like your daughter has. I am making one using the directions you posted. I am also considering making the silhouettes bags. These would be a gift for my mum-in-law. She is collecting all sorts of bags for grocery shopping and I think this would be fun to add to her collection.
I appreciate the fun things you post. Thanks.
