Travel Notebook
We are getting ready to leave on a BIG trip! We will be driving MANY miles through MANY States, and I want to make it as fun and educational as possible! In preparation for our trip I put together a travel notebook for the kids.
Since my kids have been known to ask the universal kid travel question, I figured it was a good name for the notebook! LOL

Inside I have a map for us to track our progress on as we drive.

Then I have a sheet for each of the states we will be traveling through.
The map in the previous picture as well as the State stickers above I got at Dollar Tree. I put a sticker of the USA on each page so they can circle what state we are passing through. I also plan to have them write the State Capital under the sticker. The next page in their notebook I have a quiz about each of the states we will be passing through. (You will find the quizzes here:
http://www.enchantedlearning.com/usa/statesbw/)
Then I also have a clear pocket page for each state so we can add any mementos, receipts, brochures, etc. we pick up along the way.
I also have a calendar so we can write down when we will be doing what.

Here are the pages I made for them to journal each day.
I have other sheets I made up for the kids to record their thoughts, memories and what they have learned. I know this is something we will all enjoy looking at for years to come! Below is a link to the sheets I typed up.

HERE is another great resource for worksheets on the 50 States.
I also found a great list of writing prompt for our travel journal HERE.
Click HERE for coloring sheets for each State in the US.

Happy Homeschooling,

I can't check out your travel pages at the last link because they are docx instead of just doc, but I love this idea. I tried to do this when we took our big trip to Colorado last year, but I wasn't nearly as organized. Way to go!

We are going on a long road trip soon too (end of June). I have been planning to do something like this, and looking for more ideas. Very nice, thanks for sharing :-)
I can't seem to open the doc file either :-( Is there a certain program I could use? Does OpenOffice work? I have that program somewhere on my pc, already installed, lost in all this mess of files, lol. :-)

We too do a travel notebook - it's something we've developed over the many years of traveling with our 4 little men! :-) I LOVE the idea of adding a calendar sheet and a 'notebooking' page for them to be able to jot down notes and/or their thoughts, great idea - thanks for sharing.
A few other things we do is track the license plates we see along the way - I have a map and they shade/color it in to mark them. We also do a Travel Bingo and I have a sheet that they can mark things we see along the way - pretty cool and it keeps us observing. . . it's neat to chat about all the things we witness along the way. :-) I cannot remember the link to where I first heard about 'Travel Bingo' but I'll see if I can find it and link it later.
I just returned from a trip with our boys and it was a 12hr drive - the first time we did it without Daddy (he couldn't get away from work unfortunately) and it was another wonderful trip, filled with great travel memories. God is so good and I relish they times with our little ones!
Oh and glad to have you back with all the great Freebies - I have a file I keep for just these wonderful 'freebies' you pass along to us all - thank you, you're such a blessing! :-)

This reminds me of when I had a job where I travelled extensively. My mother put up a big map of the US and a pin for whatever city I visited. :) Oh, and my newly 11 year old DS2 likes the title "Are We There Yet". :)

I love this. I did this when we took a trip to Disney. My husband could not imagine that I managed to make a trip to Disney, educational. We coveered each state we drove thru and read an autobiogaraphy of Walt Disney. It was amazing how much they enjoyed it and commented on it while we were there. I just love all the creative ideas you have. You keep us inspired.

When I tried to get your pages, keepandshare said you had to set something so that I, mom2incredibles, could get them. Never used keepandshare before, so not sure what to do. Thanks.
