My Fertility Journey or How I Got My Kids To Homeschool!
Posted in Lessons I Have Learned
A little over 2 years ago, when I was pregnant with our youngest child our church was doing a project called “Tell The Story”. They asked people to share stories of how God had worked in our lives. This is my story…
When my husband and I were 1st married almost 15 years ago, we both knew we wanted children. But God had a plan that would answer our prayers and teach us a lesson while building our family.
The 1st year passed quickly, with no baby. The 2nd year passed and still no baby. Then a miracle happened! After more than 2 years of trying we found out we were expecting our 1st child! We were so excited! We told everyone and started decorating the nursery in the first trimester. We were elated, yet the pregnancy was a difficult one. I was extremely ill and rapidly loosing weight. (40 pounds in 4 months.) As happy as I was I felt horrible. In the 3rd month a routine blood test turned our world upside down. After more testing we learned our baby had a tumor in its abdomen. We were told we would just have to wait and see what happened. We prayed almost constantly for the next 6 weeks. At the beginning of the 5th month a sonogram revealed
our baby had died. We were devastated. We grieved and grieved and tried to move on. During this time we felt so lost and alone, but we had each other and we had God. I clung to the Psalms 34:18 "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."
After the loss of the baby another year passed and no baby. We decided to try fertility treatment. We underwent fertility treatment for 2 years, unsuccessfully. Finally one day after discussing our next $10,000.00 fertility treatment with the fertility Doctor revelation hit me! "We can give $10,000.00 to everyone we know and if it is not God's plan for us to have a baby we never will!" I will never forget the look on my husband’s face when I told him I was done with fertility treatment. Almost 1 year to the day our 1st miracle, a son, was born! After 6 years of trying I don't think there were ever 2 people more grateful to become parents! As we rejoiced I also thanked the Lord for another verse I had held on to so tightly all those years. Psalms 37:4 "Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart."
We happily settled into parenting and thanked God everyday for hearing our cries and prayers and giving us a child. We wanted another child, but vowed we would trust in God and wait for His plan to unfold. We continued to pray and our first child grew and began to join us in asking the LORD for another baby. Six more years passed and after many, many prayers from us and our son, our second miracle, a daughter, was born! After 12 years of marriage we had an amazing 2 children! Words could never express how we felt. I truly believed I was the most blessed woman on earth!
We joked about asking for miracle #3…and debated whether or not we would be up for having another child in 6 years when we were 42! And while we were joking God remembered all those prayers. Two years after our daughter was born we found out we were expecting miracle #3! Praise God!!! Our 3rd child is due in December, only a few months before our 15th anniversary! Words are so inadequate to express our joy and gratitude. God has answered our prayers so beautifully. A precious card I received from a friend a few days after we announced number 3 sums it up so perfectly ~~ “I’m sure God is smiling at your surprise because He knew it would happen all along!”
Through all of this we have learned so much. We have learned what it is to be truly grateful. We have learned so much about patience as we learned to wait for God’s plan to unfold. We have learned that God loves us very much and wants us to have success instead of failure! We have learned to have compassion for others who are hurting and brokenhearted. We have learned that God’s timing is perfect! Praise God!

Hello, thanks for visiting my blog. After looking at your interests, I see we have many in common! I read your story about your first baby--my heart goes out to you and your husband and what you must have gone through. The fact that God blessed you soon after you had that realization about Him being in control is awesome!!! My sister actually is going through that right now. She just got married and has always wanted a big family. They have had some medical problems which have prevented it. I have told her and she knows, that God will give them a baby if He wants them to have one, no matter what they do or don't do to prevent it or help it along. I will share your story with her and maybe that will give her hope. Your kids are so cute! God is AWESOME!!! Thanks for sharing your story with us!!

I'm sitting here relating to so very much of your journey, right down to #3 surprise (for us, born just a few months before our 14th wedding anniversary). Thank you for sharing your wonderful story.
I am so very sorry for the pain and grief you endured in the death of your first precious child. Our first (also conceived after 2 years) is also awaiting us in Heaven, along with two other siblings. Praise God for the hope of eternity!!!

wow. I am so glad I read this. I have never struggled with fertility, but my dh had a vasectomy 6 years ago and I have grieved and prayed for another child all this time. Four months ago my dh had a reversal and I am not yet pregnant. How patient and faithful YOU were has given me a new found strength to trust that God has a plan one way or another and whatever HE wills will be right.

It is great to hear how God works in these areas. I have never really had much trouble conceiving, but I have been through 2 miscarriages so I understand some of the kind of pain. I am now 45 with 4 lovely children and submitting to God that He may yet want to give us another blessing, despite my age. (But I am not yet the age of Sarah!! LOL)

What a blessing to read your testimony of God's provision with your children. Like you, we have suffered infertility and wonder at times why we are not being fruitful in that area. I am a firm believer that God is the one that opens and closes the womb, so we believe we will have more children as the Lord permits. Your testimony has given me so much hope. THANK YOU! :-)

Feb. 7, 2008 - fertility struggle

Found your blogsite by accident as I was searching for praire bonnets. So good to hear your God -honoring stories of your children's births. We too struggled and had many losses. Our first was born after we were married ten years and then our second was a complete suprise when I was fourty two.. We also came to the conclusion that it was ultimately up to God not science for us. It is encouraging to hear someone else's struggle and see God's definite hand. I am still secretly praying for one more. We home school as well. When I get a chance I hope to read more of your blog and get to know you better. Robin in FL

thanks for sharing your story.....I found my way to your site by accident when searching on lapbooks.
We have been married 15yrs...... It took us 7yrs to carry a baby to term, then 2yrs later no 2 came along...... what a miracle!
5yrs later we are still trying, and know that indeed it is God that opens and closes the womb....and gives and takes away life (we have miscarried 8 on our journey) I am more in awe than ever before of the miracle of life.....
