Mom & Me Fun Day
Posted in My Kids
Today my family joined in with many other HSB families in a tribute to Missey Gray. Over at
Dandelion Seeds
the idea was born of taking a day off from school work and spending
time enjoying our kids. This morning at breakfast I told my kids this
was a special day we would not be doing our regular schoolwork, but
spending time having fun together instead. They LOVED this
idea. Within minutes they had the whole day planned out!
Play board games, go on a bike ride, watch a VeggieTale or two and make
felt human bodies with all the organs made out of felt. We talked and
laughed. My older son and I talked to my 5 year old daughter
about Salvation. She's not quite understanding it all, but she
had lot's of good questions and it was a good discussion. The
kids asked if we could start doing this once a month. I think
it's a great idea! The kids came up with the name Mom & Me
Fun Day.

Loved the pictures! Thank you for sharing your "heart schooling" day. This is a day your dc won't soon forget. I also like your idea of the felt bodies...where do you get that large pieces of felt, the fabric store? I think I want to try that. If you would be interested in writing a little blurb about how to do that, I would like to put in on our creative homeschooling site. Let me know on my blog if you are interested. :)

We did not know about this special day in memory of Missey Gray. I like the way you planned yours, so my DCs and I have planned ours for tomorrow. I like your idea so much I am going to put it in my lesson planner on the same day each year and use it like a holiday.

Also, I had read on another blog that you had a HS friend that was blind and I was wondering if there was any way you could connect us. I am legally blind also, and I am interested to see how she does her teaching. I thought we might could share ideas & help each other. Thank you

Mar. 14, 2006 - Tribute to Missey Gray Day

I felt so bad to hear about Missey Gray's death at an early age. I wrote to her husband, and left a message on blogsites, including my own. That's wonderful you and other homeschoolers held a special day to have fun with the kids. We took a couple homeschool days off last week and took our youngest daughter to Legoland for her 9th birthday, so we celebrated our "Fun Days" earlier-on. But, in reality, we try and have fun everyday when homeschooling! Our school name is even titled "Valley of Laughter School."
Your photos of the kids bike riding, playing board games is priceless! Thanks so much for sharing about your day.
Your tribute to your 1st child's death is so touching, too.
May God richly bless you and your family,
Susan
