The web is abuzz with many news reports that production has commenced on the second Narnia movie, Prince Caspian. Fans of the C.S. Lewis series can take heart that a movie franchise is now well underway. And with a projected Christmas, 2007 release date, we can only hope that the child actors won't grow up too much before the first three key stories are complete.
The first movie, The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, as been a surprise hit. With nearly $280 million in US receipts and $640 million globally, it has quickly become Disney's most successful live-action movie. And it hasn't even left the theatres, still hauling in a few mil every week. The film will surely continue to perform on cable, video and DVD. And three Oscar nods show that even Hollywood's wine-and-cheese crowd couldn't help but to acknowledge this great popcorn flick.
Most encouraging of all, this success is a huge accomplishment for the production company, Christian-owned Walden Media. After box office bombs like Holes and Around the World in 80 Days, it would seem that Walden's fortunes are assured, and that we can expect wholesome family fare from them for years to come.
Wouldn't that be great?!
