Concentration and Detergent

Belle and I made a "concentration" game for number recognition.  She's reviewing 1-9 and doing real well so we'll be moving on to some more numbers soon.  I'm really pleased with the way she is making her "2's" now...she's been practicing quite a bit and they look great!  We did this on Friday.

Today we had to make more laundry detergent.  Belle loves to grate the bar of soap with this old cheese grater.  Later, she melted the soap in water and we added some other things and...Ta Da!!...we now have a huge bucket of laundry detergent!

Belle is a great helper!  I need to make her an apron don't I??

Naked Turkey!

Shimmer made a wonderful turkey...almost as big as her!  This is a picture of the turkey body without the feathers.  I'm not real sure why we didn't get a "finished" picture!

Notice the foot in the background!  Feet always make a nice addition to pictures! lol!!

She "takes it like a man"

Shimmer is starting to get a cold...so...I gave her some medicine.  She looked at me and said, "I'm going to take this like a man," and proceeded to down the medicine!! LOL!!  She cracks me up at least 50 times a day!

Here is a picture of Shimmer with her little brother, Yellow Dumplin' Boy.  We were at East Tennessee Children's Hospital because Yellow had a central line infection.  She is such a "little mommy" to him!  You can read more about Yellow at Yellow Dumpling Boy

You Sew Girl!

I am so excited!!  Shimmer is showing an interest in learning how to sew.  I LOVE sewing so I am really thrilled.  I think she will want to make something sparkley, shiny, glittery...something very neat!!  I'm also going to suggest that she make something to give to a charity...like blankets or pillows for sick children.  I think that will be very rewarding for her since she has a little brother who has a chronic illness.  I'll have to start looking for a little sewing machine!!

I found this website about young people sewing...  http://www.sewyoungsewfun.com/default.html

Bath Tub Craft

I promised my daughter that I would do a craft with her but I haven't been able to here in the hospital.  I am gathering some craft ideas for us to do together when I get back home.  Maybe we can plan a full craft day...

Here's a neat craft I found...

sorry for my mom not writing back so soon

Hi, my name is Gallinipper. I am the maker of this blog's son. Sorry she hasn't wrote back to any of your comments. I knew she would have wrote back except I have a  little brother who has been in the hospital for six months. We had been home for a couple months  but he striked a fever and had to go back to the hospital. He is getting better surely but slowly so she might not write back for a couple days. If you want to know more about him go to this website www.caringbridge.org/visit/gusdoriot . Goodbye for to night.

Leap Frog ABC Factory...two thumbs up!

My friend, Mary, dropped LeapFrog ABC Factory off here at the house for Shimmer to watch.  Have you seen this video??  I am really impressed with it....Shimmer has been so reluctant to learn the alphabet but I think this video may do the trick.  Obviously, I'm not as mesmerizing or fun when it comes to teaching ABC's!!

Here's the link for some reviews:

Gathering acorns

Shimmer met with Granny to gather acorns from the front yard.  She came home with a gazillion in a little ziploc baggie.  I think she will practice counting with them tomorrow...she is a really good counter!

We didn't get to work on Chicka Chicka Boom Boom because Yellow Dumplin' Boy had to take a trip to the dr. office because of a fever....so, we'll work on it tomorrow.  She has picked out a place for the tree though.  All we have to do is laminate the pieces and go forth!

I think tomorrow I am going to look for a lip gloss recipe that Shimmer and I can make.  She loves lipgloss!!

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

This week, Shimmer and I are going to make a tree like the one in Chicka Chicka Boom Boom to hold all her lower case letters.  I'm not sure where we'll put it...on the wall somewhere.  I swore that when I started homeschooling I would not hang "stuff" all over the house...I would confine "school" to one room.  How boring!!  I love all the "stuff" that decorates our home!

Shimmer and I will also be shopping for her fall/winter clothes this week.  She doesn't need a lot, just some basics.

Back to Chicka Chicka Boom Boom...I just came across a site and it had the cutest snack idea...fill celery with peanut butter then put Alphabit cereal on the peanut butter!  The site was www.hubbardscupboard.org
