• Oct. 1, 2006 - Today
| I am so glad to be the wife of a potential pastor. As much as I know that God called Mike to be a pastor He called me to be a pastor's wife. I know that I have a lot to learn and a lot of growing to do. Today sitting and listening to Mike's sermon, I was astounded by the wisdom that the Lord has bestowed upon him. Every time he gets in the pulpit, I am anxious to hear what the Lord has revealed to him in the past week. On a different note, I am looking forward to the next week of homeschooling. I am making a couple of changes and I am hoping that they go smoothly. |

• Sep. 28, 2006 - Thursday Ailments
| I hope Thursday is not turning into the day I take one of the kids to the doctor! Last Thursday I had to take Abby for strep throat and today I had to take Trevor for poison ivy. He got it working in the yard cutting up a huge limb that fell during a storm. He wasn't able to go to work because he is so miserable. My sister and I are official mall walkers. This morning we wanted to go walk but it was raining. We decided to hit the mall and it was perfect! You don't have to worry about bad weather and the temperature is always pleasant. Thank you, Lord for doctors to take our precious ones to when they feel icky and the ability to exercise: ~) |

• Sep. 26, 2006 - Those Little Whispers
| I am so smitten with my 4 yr. olds little whisper. When she comes up to me and leans real close to my ear and says "Mommy, can you get __________down for me?" I just can't stand it! I love her little face and that she has a tiny bit of a lisp. She could be asking me to get down the Crisco to smear all over the bathroom mirror and I would have to think about it real hard before doing it. I love it! Well, because I love her! Today was a good day of school, I just went to peek in on Trevor and he is feverishly working on his Geography work. Done my mama heart good, I tell ya! Thank you, Lord for school at home and little whispers! |

• Sep. 25, 2006 - Beautiful Day
| It has been a beautiful day here in Middle Tennessee. We have enjoyed being outside and playing. We did school this morning and this afternoon has been so pleasant. I was able to do all my laundry and hang it on the line. I did my dishes in front of the open window watching the girls play. I have been listening to a cd by our college choir and I never get tired of it. It lifts me up when I am tired and it helps me praise the Lord. All the songs are so good and I love it when I can play a cd and love each song on it! Thank you, Lord, for this beautiful day!!! |

• Sep. 21, 2006 - Going to the Dr.
| I took Abby to the Dr today. She was talking to me this morning and I got a glimpse at the back of her throat~~and OH MY GOODNESS her tonsils were swelled real BIG! Well, let's start from the beginning~last night she fell asleep and she was snoring really loud. I mean so loud I had to roll her over on her side to stop her. I started thinking maybe she has strep throat. My sister use to get strep alot growinrg up and since I am eleven years older than her I remember it vividly. When she would get it she would snore and her voice would change a little like there was something wrong. I asked Abby if her throat hurt and she said no but I suspected something anyway. I called the doctor's office and they fit her in this morning. When the dr came in the room she had a kind of "why are you here attitude" She asked Abby if her throat hurt and again Abby said no. She asked me if Abby had been running a fever~no she hadn't. She seemed a little annoyed until she looked on the computer screen and the strep test was positive. BOO~YAH!!!! One for Mom here!!!!! The Dr. said I was very perceptive for catching it that quick! That's right, that's right!! I patted myself on the back quite a few times. Well~this is one time I can give myself the GOOD MOMMY award :~) |

• Sep. 17, 2006 - Our Friday
| We went to the State Fair on Friday and we were quite disappointed! We planned to stay the whole day but left around 2pm because we had already done everything we could!!! We don?t ride the rides or do those ridiculous games. We go for the exhibition hall and the other things. There was hardly anyone there and I guess a lot of people had already left. We did decide to enter in some of the contests next year. We talked to a lady that had won lots of blue ribbons for cooking and she was very encouraging. We did get to see the livestock and go to the shark show. Friday night Mike and I went to The Cheesecake Factory for supper. A dear friend of ours gave us a gift card for our anniversary and we were finally able to use it. It was so great! We went early enough to beat the crowds. We only had to wait about 20 minutes. Mike got the Honey Maple Pork Tenderloin with mashed potatoes, broccoli, and carrots. I got the Chicken Madeira with mushrooms, asparagus, and mashed potatoes. Both of our entrees were wonderful! To top it off, we got a piece of Oreo Mudslide Cheesecake and shared it! The portions are so big we ate the rest of our meal last night for supper. Mike was shocked at how much food you get for the price. Homeschooling went good last week and I hope this week will go even better. |

• Sep. 11, 2006 - Seminar Notes
| The first seminar last Thursday night was on emotional needs of pastor's wives. (and wives of men on the ministry) Coping Strategies 1) Lower Expectations There are seasons in life and we just can not do it all!! Simplify! Be focused and single-minded. Find out what God wants you to do and do it, not what others expect you to do. Lower your family's activity level. 2) Lower your Standards Everything doesn't have to be perfect and you are not a bad mother or wife if it's not. 3) Have an Anchor Every day spend time alone with God. In the moments God speaks to you write it down. Obey what the Bible says. 4) Praise God every day Be thankful! You must think before you thank. Praise doesn't change circumstances but it helps you put things into perspective. 5) Take time for yourself regularly! 6) Build relationships We must choose to do things that are important. Build a good relationship with your husband. Make time for each other. 7) Stay physically fit 8) Laugh!!! Don't take yourself so seriously. 9) Plan- But be flexible! Write lists and do a schedule. If your plan fails---let it go!! 10) Keep this life in perspective. We are only here for a short time. 4 things we can learn about ourselves by taking care of houseplants. 1) You must know what conditions are best. What suits you best? God knows our personalities so ask Him what you are to do. We should not compare ourselves to others! 2) Give plants water-occasionally. Only you know what energizes you! Hurting people hurt people-so don't try to help someone if you are in need yourself. Include time for you. 3) Repot-when necessary. Changes come-it is difficult but necessary. Look for the good in it! 4) You have to break the plant open sometimes. When we are broken we are able to help others. Do not resist discomfort. Scripture references Hebrews 13, Isaiah 61:3, II Cor. 1:4, Hebrews 12:1-2 |

• Sep. 7, 2006 - The Seminars start tonight!!!
| The college that my husband attends is starting a 10 week seminar for Pastor's wives. I have been looking forward to it all summer long and for the past week I have been kinda nervous. You know how it is~~ it's something new, you don't know how things will go, you only know one person that will be attending, where is child care located??, and I could go on. I have chosen not to let the devil scare me! I am praying that God will reveal lots of things I will need to know as a soon to be pastor's wife. As most people know, God doesn't just call the husband to the ministry He calls the wife too!! My husband is getting plenty of training to be a pastor in his classes~~I, on the other hand, feel kind of clueless about my role sometimes. I am excited about meeting new people and learning new things! I am willing to do my part in this ministry God has called our family into and I am looking forward to seeing what His plan is for us. I will be posting what we talk about every Thursday night for 8 weeks so that I can look back and see what I have learned. Who knows, maybe the information will help another pastor's or soon to be pastor's wife. |

• Sep. 6, 2006 - The Crocodile Hunter
| Okay, okay I know that there has been alot of talk about Steve Irwin's death and it is kind of a sick obsession in our society. BUT, I am upset about it! My kids loved the Wiggles and they have a video with him and they feel in love with The Crocodile Hunter. My oldest daughter had a Crocodile Hunter birthday party when she turned 3 because~~~~he was so cool! I wanted to do a princess party but NOOO it had to be the crocodile hunter! We looked high and low for decorations and finally ended up making our own to make the party a success. We still have the cake topper of him wrestling a crocodile that amazingly we found somewhere! When you push the button on the back it says "Crikey". That was a great party!!! My mom helped me on that search for all things Croc and when she heard the news on Monday she called to tell us. She knew it would be a shock and I am glad she called to tell us before we saw it on TV or the internet. Anyway, those are some of our memories of the Crocodile Hunter. |

• Sep. 1, 2006 - Our First Week of School
| This week was our first official week of homeschool. We got pretty much into our routine. After our company left last Monday and Mike registering for classes we got everything together to start school this past Monday. We are using Math U See for the first time this year and they are liking it alot!! I hope they continue to be excited about doing it. Trevor's schedule at work has been cut back for the school year and things are moving right along. Mike has classes at the college on Mon., Wed., and Fri. the only day he has to be there till 3:30 is Wed. I think this schedule will suit us more for this semester. I am excited because he will be home till 12 and will be available to help with the kids some mornings. He has already helped this week with some of Trevor and Shelby's school work. Mary has been helping with Abby but that will change on Tuesday because she starts her new job. We are not planning much for the weekend, maybe a cookout or something. I hope that everybody has a great holiday weekend!!! |

• Aug. 17, 2006 - Getting ready for Company
| I have a great knack for waiting till the last minute to do things! I think they call it procrastination. I have known for a couple of weeks that we would be having company today and what do I do find myself cleaning today. Why can't I just do it early and not have to worry about it. And-----it's all things that could have been done eons ago!! Well--- I am pretty much done except for the mopping. It is my least favorite thing to do~~that's why I taught my 15 yr old to do it! There are perks to being the mama! Besides, it was my husband's job when he was at home because his mom hated it too!!! I learned from my mil!!
I am also excited because my sister called yesterday and she is flying in next Wednesday. She has a couple of job interviews here. WOO HOO!!
I'll blog again after my company leaves. |

• Jul. 29, 2006 - Our Days...........and Nights
| Our days this past week have been filled with "Summer Cleaning". We kinda skipped the Spring Cleaning. I have been trying to get things ready for a consignment sale. It is amazing how much STUFF 5 people can accumulate. When we moved here 2 1/2 yrs ago I thought we had gotten rid of alot of stuff. Now I realize it wasn't nearly enough.
In other news, we have decided to start school at the end of August. Mike registers for classes at the college on Aug. 22 and we will start around that time. We have company coming on Aug. 17. Our pastor and his family from Virginia are bringing their daughter to college and they will be staying with us. I like having company!!! I have started planning meals and stuff.
Trevor had a great time at camp. We are glad he is home. We missed him. Abby was talking in the van on Wed. and she asked everyone a question, then she said, "Right, Trevor?" I said, "Honey, he is at camp" She said, "When will he be back?" She is so sweet! |

• Jul. 24, 2006 - I should be going to bed~~~~~
| but I'm blogging! I have been up since 4:45 to get Trevor off to camp~~again! He decided to go to camp again and who am I to keep him from ANOTHER week of fun. I am praying that he has a great spiritual time. In other news, Shelby and Abby had ballet class today. Abby almost missed hers because she fell asleep on the way. She was tired from getting up at the time mentioned above. She was sound asleep! After a few minutes I got her to respond and she was coherent.
I got a package in the mail from my mom. It contained something I had prayed for over the weekend. NEW SHIRTS!!! Honestly, I had to dress to go out with some friens on Saturday night and couldn't find a nice shirt in my closet and I said Lord I would love to have a new shirt AND what came in the mail on Monday 3 NEW SHIRTS. Thank you Lord for meeting my needs! |

• Jul. 19, 2006 - We Did It!!!!!!!!!
| We survived three whole days, in scorching heat, without air conditioning!!! Not by choice, I might add! Our A/C had been making a funny noise for a couple of days, so I called the couple we rent from. They sent someone out to look at it. He was very prompt and tried to fix it. But, the unit was really old and on it's last leg. It worked for a couple more days and then decided to konk out on Saturday evening. I called to tell them the bad news and they were so nice about it. They replaced the unit yesterday so we have a nice cool house again. A friend fom church loaned us a window unit and we camped out in the living room Sunday and Monday night! It was a life saver because it was HOT!!!!!! The hottest days of the year! I was proud of the kids for their good attitudes about it. We got up and did chores and stuff before it got hot in the house. We got alot accomplished before ten o'clock!! LOL Mike and I made sure the kids knew that we were blessed and that we need to be thankful that we have A/C. |

| My wonderful husband is in pain! It has been a week since dh had his bottom wisom teeth out but yesterday was the first day that he took prescribed pain medicine!!! Isn't supposed to get better after a couple of days ~~~not worse? When he went for his recheck yesterday they said he didn't have dry socket. They said that he may have gotten food down in the wound and it will eventually work itself out! I hope that happens real soon because I can not stand for him to be in pain!! He very rarely complains about anything so I know this is very painful!!! |

• Jul. 13, 2006 - The Sacred Basket
| I have one of these in my bedroom. You would think it contained treasures of some sort BUT it doesn't. I have a basket that I just can't let go. It is brimming, overflowing with~~~~~~~matchless socks!!! That's right! The little round basket has socks that have not had a match in over a year~~why can't I get rid of them??? Am I the eternal optimist that I will eventually find the mate? Is it in the cushions of the couch, behind the dresser, under the bed, in the garage??? Why do I hold on to them? Is it a separation issue?? Does anyone else have a basket like this? Are there other Matchless Sock Hoarders out there? I am going to try to purge that basket sometime this week!!! |

• Jul. 10, 2006 - Goodbye Dinner
| I am going to the Cheesecake factory for a goodbye dinner tonight. My good friend is moving to Houston in a week or so and we are going out for one last dinner. I wish she wasn't moving. She is such a good friend and our kids get along so well. She is the one from the earlier posts~ going to Dinosaur world and the great playdates. I am really going to miss her and her kids. Shelby and Abby had dance classes today and Trevor had to work all day. Mike is doing good after the two wisdom teeth came out on Friday. He did so great and I am glad. He was able to do the service yesterday and the message was great. He talked about letting emotions get the best of you. The passages he used was Numbers 20:1-13 where Moses gets angry with the people of Israel. Moses hits the rock twice instead if obeying God and speaking to it. He did it because he let his emotions get the best of him and because of that he was not allowed to lead the people into the promised land. What struck me was that Mike brought up that Moses was also emotional because he had just lost his sister, Miriam. How many times do we get carried away by our emotions after something happens to make us sad or mad? I feel like I am on an emtional rollcoaster alot! I am going to try to remember these verses the next time I feel an emotional outburst is bubbling to the surface. |

• Jul. 6, 2006 - A Nice Trip to the Library
| My family and I took a nice trip to the library today. It was a very relaxing visit and we all got something we wanted. Mike has his two wisdom teeth taken out tomorrow. He is glad that is finally going to be tomorrow. They have been giving him a fit over the last couple of weeks. I have been able to do a few pages of scrapbooking over the past couple of days and I am glad. I love to scrapbook but I don't get as much time to do it as I would like. Sound familiar? |
