Dec. 27, 2006~ Resolutions, fifteen minutes at a time. ~
This is the time of year that many of us are hoping to make a fresh start by making some resolutions for the new year. The Thorndike Barnhart Dictionary defines resolution as a thing decided on or a thing determined. Last year I kept every resolution that I made! That's because I did not make a single one!!! The year before I made a few, but they were not realistic nor were they measurable. For example, I wanted to exercise more. That is a nice idea, but when? When was I going to do it? How was I going to do it? How was I going to measure my success or failure, as it turned out?
This year I am making detailed resolutions and I am being realistic. I am going to do it the Flylady way, fifteen minutes at a time. (Flylady's mantra is "I can do anything for fifteen minutes!") All of my resolutions are going to be made in 15 minute goals. If I say that I want to get up at 5 every single morning and do my walking tape, then I can count on failing, because I know myself too well! But I can do anything for 15 minutes, and I may not even stop after 15 minutes once I get going! Or if I can only make myself do something for 15 minutes, then at least I have done that much.
Here is what I have so far:
1. I will read my Bible each night at 10PM according to my Bible reading plan.
2. I will seek out tangible ways to encourage my husband every day.
3. I will eat only when I am hungry and I will stop when I am full, not stuffed! I will pray before each meal, asking the Lord to help me in this area.
4. I will get up at 6:30 AM 5 days a week and exercise for 15 minutes. If this timing is not possible, I will exercise after lunch. One exception is when I mow the grass in the summer. That will count as my 15 minutes that day. (It should count for the entire week!)
5. I will blog once a week about my progress or failures regarding my resolutions.
I could never get tired of you, Jenn! Comments are the reason I keep blogging. I enjoyed your post today. I think you have a good plan going for the new year.
