~ Show & Tell: Grandma's Weekly Visits ~

For the last 10 years, my dear mother-in-law has made the 2.5 hour trip to our house once a week in the summer months when she is not working as a science teacher.  The kids and I really enjoy this weekly visit because that means we get to take her to all sorts of fun places.  Then when Daddy gets home we eat a nice meal together which includes my brother-in-law, Uncle Greg.

Now, you have to know that Uncle Greg is a big boy at heart and the kids just adore him and he likes to pick on them  play with them.  Sometimes we have to ask his mom to speak to him about his behavior, but all-in-all, he's a great uncle.

This week we stayed close to home because of basketball camp in the afternoons.  I just now realized that I did not take photos of our morning at the splash park.  But you've seen those here before, so I hope you'll forgive me.

Here are some photos of our late afternoon and evening.  On a funny note, instead of walking both ways to the restaurant, we drove the van to town because it was so humid.  After eating dinner, we decided to walk the 1.5 miles home as it was really nice out by then and we had eaten too much ice cream, needing to walk it off a little.  My sweet Jeff biked back to get the van.  I just love living so close to downtown, sometimes!  I won't tell you how he had to bike back home for his van keys.  No, that might  be too embarrassing.

Even while Mary is away, she is able to pull off her hostess duties. Thanks Mary!

What a blessing that is for your family. My mom lives 8 hours away, so I'm not sure if she'd be up to making a weekly trip. I do wish she could be amore of a physical presence in our kids lives.

Thanks for sharing the pictures. What a great looking downtown area you have there.

It sounds like you had a wonderful evening. Being able to walk to town like that would be a lot of fun - and healthy too.

Sounds like a lovely visit, what a blessing to have your MIL in for a special visit every week. And lol about the car keys, he must have needed the exercise!

It's raining here, but it's not that bad.
I didn't know that you lived "that" close to downtown! Indy is such a beautiful city. So clean! I love it. We go to downtown Indy often.
My mom is two hours away and she comes during the school year every week (before this past year, she came every other week) My brother, "Uncle Dave" drives her.
That is nice you have such a good relationship with your mother in law. A rare thing, I sometimes think.

What fun! I wish we could spend time with grandparents like that... maybe one day we will be closer to them!

YIKES! He had to bike back to get the keys!! That was enough to justify having a second ice cream! :D

I grew up with one of the "picking" "playing" uncles! What a treasure NOW!

Thanks for sharing~

What fun! I would love to be able to walk places around here. There just aren't many places I'd want to walk to, I suppose.

Ahhhh. So your sweet hubby got extra exercise? *hee hee* Keys are a funny thing. . . .

Have a great weekend!

I love living close enough to town to walk also! I live about 3/4 mile from town. But Enumclaw is small, so there's not a whole lot there.

And yes, I figured out the IE problem. I went into my template on IE and made it look nice there; it maintained it's "nice" look for Firefox, as well. :-)
Thanks for asking!

Oh, Iike that special photo display! How nice that your mil will drive that far once a week - I know how tiring a trip that can be - we go to my mom's 1 1/4 hr. away about once every 2 weeks, and that's enough for me. But then, the trip probably isn't as presurable as it is for you all. Looks like you had a nice day/special day!

Hi Jenn!
Too bad about the keys....I know how it's hard to keep track of where they are at times. Hey, tell Jeff I had this dream that a small plane came and landed on this lake, shed its wings and become a motorboat, and it was him driving it. Too unreal.

Your mother in law is a science teacher?
That must be helpful!
I smile when I read of Uncle Greg who picks on the kids...we've got one of those uncles!
