Jul. 4, 2008~ Show & Tell Friday: Jeff's New Love & More ~
Welcome to my show& tell. This has been an exciting week for us as a family. Jeff , my beloved, was given this sweet 1982 Schwinn World Tourist bike. Sadly, it was not taken very good care of over its life, so he has lovingly began the restoration process with great eagerness. And now he has a wonderful touring bike to use when we bike as a family. In fact, Jeff now has a mountain bike, a hybrid, and a touring bike. Does this guy loves bikes or what? Well, let me just say that when I met him, a 50 mile bike ride was normal for him. However, with the years passing and having a family to provide for, he had to give up his bike touring days for awhile. But now, he's back to training and I think it won't be long before he can do the bike tours he used to love. Anyway, here are some photos of he and his new love.
Before... After... Little helpers arrive...
And here are some pictures of the kids on their bikes... One last look at Jeff and his new love. And here is my retro touring bike. Happy trails to you! We'll be out on the Monon this weekend, weather permitting.
Have a safe and festive 4th!

The pics are awesome! It's cool he's able to get back to a love of his. Your kids will pick up on that too!! My hubby loved his karate now he and both of our boys are doing it!! Gotta love that when the Lord works out things we think we have to give up!!!
A "retro" bike. LOL
My DD has a retro bike--a new one but it has the style of the old-fashioned ones. I love to ride my bike. It's pretty level up here on the Plateau, so it's not a hardship to take a quick 5-mile "loop" and see the dairies and horse farms. It means summer is really here!
How can a bike from 1982 be a classic!? Oh my I must be getting old! I wish I still had my classic 1975 schwin! My hubby toured also. He was in many races. Miss those days!
Wow! That's impressive of what he did to that handlebar!
All I can think of when I read your s&t is what a physically fit family your going to have. Awesome!

I love your bike! The basket is perfect. Your husband's is nice also. Where we live, there aren't any paved roads for almost a mile and the farmers like to pretend they're Nascar drivers up and down ours, so no family biking :-(.
Blessings, Julie
Nice. I guess I didn't know what "touring" was. Maybe still don't. ha. Hope you bring back pics from that cool bike trail you have there! There's an abandoned rail bed near us out here in the country I'd like to see them do something with. You can't use it, as it's all overgrown, or going through farms.

I LOVE your bike! That is exactly what I am looking for.
My current bike is a trail/mountain bike ( I think?) and I really don't care for it. It has straight handlebars and I lean so far forward - it always hurts my hands/wrists and so I can't ride very far. :-(
Can I ask how your DH is getting all of the rust off? we found a "classic" girl's bike with a banana seat, that my DD has been riding, and I love it but it does have some rusty spots. I would love to be able to clean it up.
