~ Things I hope to do this summer, a random list. ~

I've been working on this list for a week.  It is not complete.  Just thought I'd post it now that we are in the full swing of summer.

  • Make studying my bible a priority.
  • Train my kids to keep their rooms tidy.  (Grace's room is in disaster mode again.)
  • Continue reading aloud as a family.  (Dune Boy by Edwin Way Teale)
  • Clean the house on a regular schedule, not just in crisis mode.
  • Visit my grandparents weekly.
  • Catch up with dear friends.
  • Order our books for next year.
  • Make a plan for Science studies next year.
  • Loose 10 pounds.
  • Sell some extra books.
  • Purge our belongings.
  • Make weekly library trips.
  • Read for pleasure, starting with Maria Von Trapp's autobiography.
  • Work on a routine for fall which would include chores, lessons.
  • Swim with friends once a week.
  • Teach my boys to be less dependent on screens.  Side note:  I am embarrassed to say that my boys have forgotten how to entertain themselves without a Wii or the computer, a skill we once boasted.  I will have to double my efforts to make them less reliant.  They do fine when we are camping, so I don't understand why they pine for them so when there is no school.  I am praying about what to do.  I do limit their time with a timer.  That doesn't seem to help.  I would love to just unplug them both and send the cords to work with their daddy!
  • Go camping!

So do you have big plans for this summer?

Good morning, Jenn! Yes, I'll let you know when I post the month in review. Wow, I didn't know I had a fan club, lol!

Your list of goals for the summer is a great idea. Think I'll do that, too, but not sure I'll post it. I'm great at making lists, not great at crossing things off. :o)

Your camping/vacationing looks so fun. What precious memories you are making. God bless you!

I totally agree with teaching the children to be less dependant on a screen! I think we need to work on the adults around here too! We plan on being outside as much as possible while the nice weather lasts and maybe the weening off of the electronics will carry over into the school year and beyond!

Great plans Jenn. That's what I have to do - write down everything I want to accomplish this summer and then work on it a little every day.

Wow, weekly library trips. If I go consistently every 3 weeks, when the books are due, I feel like I've accomplished something. :)

That's great that you are still doing read-alouds. I keep talking about starting up ours again. We are in the middle of The Swiss Family Robinson, and I haven't read it in about a year (yes I'm embarrassed about that).

Once kids start on the electronic thing, it does have a pull on them. Paulie can get it real bad. He's antsy about the 'possibility' all day. So if I know we just don't want him to have any play time that day, I tell him in the morning. Though he's bummed when I first tell him, once he knows it's out of the question, he does pretty good the rest of the day. It's the unknowing, the possibility, that effects him. Once that's gone, he's good, usually. :) And we watch the timing too. It's just something that attracts them once they start.

Your list is great. Hope you get it all done. I will have to think of a list myself and post it. :)

What a great list. I have to agree on continuing read a louds. And for us I thought to do some sort of fun math throughout the summer too. I ordered the book Family Math. I hope I like it. I'll have to come up with my own more extended list.

Thank you sooooooooo much for being such a sweet and special bloggy friend. Our friendship means A LOT to me. I know your feelings well my friend when it comes to the boys needing the ability to be able to play without screens. ((HUGS))

Hi Jenn!
Your list is so similar to what mine would be if I were to make one. I go through phases of list making and usually lose them once I do make one. My kids could testify to this quickly as one of the first things I usually say upon entering Stuffmart is "I forgot my list!" Oh well, not a big deal in the whole scheme of things :-).
Hope you have a great Friday and weekend, we're supposed to get sweltering temps!
Blessings, Julie

#2 on your list is exactly what I'm thinking about this summer. I'm always impressed when I go to someone elses home and their kids rooms are neat as a pin. I've always struggled in this area (big time.) I'll feel as if "I've arrived" in the domestic goddess department when my kids bedrooms are neat all the time. ((and mine too)).

I could use #9 too, the 10 pounds....
