~ Camping at Lake Michigan, Again ~

What can I say?  We had fun?  We still love camping?  Those things are true, but seem to lack the descripitive power I am seeking.   Yes, camping is exhausting.  I can't deny that.  And I do have some new bug bites that are driving me crazy.  But the emotional highs, the knitting our heats together, the freedom from technology is much more powerful than the negatives.  Even the mountain of laundry waiting for me is minor compared to watching my husband and daughter take off on a hike with a naturalist.  Here are some photos.  Our next trip is in only 3 weeks.  I may have the laundry caught up by then!

Here are some pictures of camp.  We had a really good campsite that was right at the base of a sand dune.  There are awesome oak trees all over the campground that offer refreshing shade.

We shared some great times around this fire ring.  We read aloud from Dune Boy, played games and ate smores!  The "tacky lights" were from our last outing.

We spent much of a whole day at the beach.  Grandma stopped by too.  The weather was great.  The water was FREEZING!  It's not swimming time yet.

Later that same night, we went back to the beach to see the sunset.  The clouds got in the way, but still it was lovely.

The last day, Grace and Daddy went on a hike with a park naturalist.  The boys and I were "camp potatoes,"  our new word for being lazy.  We had lunch and then packed up for home.  It was a great day, until it started to rain and continued to rain our whole way home!

Cute picture of you in the braids! Bringing a read aloud, now why didn't I think of that - good idea. After spending 24/7 with eachother for many days, it's easy to run out of things to say. And I like your new term, "Camp Potato". I'll have to remember that one. Maybe you should submit it to Websters Dictionary - or better yet, World Book, complete with pictures of you guys. lol. Glad you are back safe & sound.

I wanna be a camp potatoe ! We are still working crazily and busily getting all those transplants in the ground.

I am thinking of setting up a camp ground in our yard. Luke is still weed whacking and hopefully he will find our fire pit soon. I want us to have a hotdog roast soon.

We are in the midst of digging squash pits for the pumpkins and I am weeding a area for basil. I just wished I didn't feel sore all over.

I pray your summer fun continues !

Blessings and ((HUGS)) my SSiC

I've never been tent camping. I'm tempted, but I don't think I want my family to see what a whiner I can become when I'm away from electricity. =)

Oh, that looks like so much fun! I wish it wasn't so hot here. Maybe we can try camping this fall when the nights start to cool off again.

You are making wonderful memories for your children!

That's interesting...the water was much warmer up here, and there were quite a few people swimming. (Of course..it could be the fact that the Point Beach nuclear power plant warms the water up) :-S I hope we don't all glow in the dark, now!

I'm glad you had such a nice time.
Blessings,
Michelle

I hope you got your stuff all packed before it began to rain! Sounds like another grand adventure. Our camping trip got put on hold because my sister and her family are coming for a visit.

oh, your camping trip looks so restful and fun. I am really liking your new avatar picture too. It looks like you have truly become the camping queen.
I think we will be camping in the fall when the weather turns cooler. We are too spoiled to camp in the heat of summer.
