~ Show & Tell: Vinyl Makes a Comeback ~

Welcome to Show & Tell,

hosted by Mary aka Canadagirl. Drop by her blog to see more S&T entries.

Today, I want to show you something very special to me.  I am the blessed recipient of my Grandpa's stereo, complete with turntable and records!!!

When I was little, I used to LOVE listening to records at my grandparent's home.  Grandpa had a huge collection of albums.  I remember he would play them often while we ate some of his homemade sourdough bread for a night time snack.  My cousin, who is only 2 months older than me, and I would dance around their small livingroom listening to these records.  It was a grand time.

I don't think anything compares to the sound of vinyl.

Last evening, after the kids were in bed, Jeff and I listened to an album, which was quite cozy.  Only drawbacks of a record player is that there is no remote control and you have to get up to flip the record!  (We are so spoiled!)

Here is a tiny sample of the records we have to enjoy.  ( I apologize for the glare of the flash.)

Even the kids are enjoying this music.  It was strange to think they had never seen a record before.

Have a blessed weekend and Happy Father's Day!  We get to celebrate Father's Day with 3 generations.  We are having lunch with "The Grands" at the nursing home for only $3 a person.  I may have to eat there more often.  That's a bargain!

~Jenn

Very cool. I remember the first time one of my children asked what a record was. Yikes.

You are so right that nothing compares to the sound of vinyl records. Having grown up with your collection, I am so thankful that they are being enjoyed by the Grand's grandchildren.

What fun! Yes, it is strange to describe records to our kids...and phones with dials, not buttons, curlers with the spikeys and those plastic pins, which you'd set your hair on while wet (but after applying curling gel!...remember Dippity-Do?), and typewriters, correction tape...or, banned in college--onion-skin paper! So much more...

Thanks for the trip down the M-lane!

Neat O ! I am glad you all get to enjoy this wonderful gift ! Wow, those records are in BEAUTIFUL condition too. Yes, we were at the tail end of records. I remember having lots of 45's and then switching over to tape cassets. ( I think I was in 7th grade) I'm dating myself now, lol. Enjoy this time and I pray your grandparents are doing well.

Blessings and ((HUGS)) my SSiC

We still have a record player, but I can't remember the last time we listened to vinyl. May have to do that this weekend.

Thanks for sharing your memories with us.

LOL, neat! The stereo looks a lot like one my parents had many long years ago - and then they got an 8 track - hahaha. Glad you are enjoying it - hang on to it and it may be worth something someday. My kids barely know what a record is too.

Wonderful! I agree - there's nothing quite as great a vinyl records! I have a record player and am always adding to my collection of albums from thrift stores and garage sales. Dean Martin is one of my favorites and I also just love Lawrence Welk! I never miss his show on Saturday night. lol I'm so glad you got this treasure. It's so wonderful to have something that means so much and has such great memories associated with it. Enjoy!!

God bless you - Julie

I am so not coveting! We had a oppertunity to get one from the folks who gave us their 1918 Whitney Piano but because we were already obtaining something BIG we couldnt take it(course this was when we had lived in Military Housing)... Now I had been thinking about it since we bought our hobby farm... I am sure you are going to give your kids some awesome memories... Just so sweet!
