Look, I'm Blogging!
I am back. Sorta. I wasn't really ever gone... I just stopped blogging for a little while. Kaylea and her family came and visited us (it was really supposed to be a party, but it was canceled due to the rainy weather) and Kaylea told me I need to blog. She yelled at me. Okay, not really. But she said I needed to update my blog so here I am. The funny thing is is that there's been so much going on that I don't know where to start. I guess I'll start at the beginning because, as every Sound of Music lover knows, that's a very good place to start.
Okay, back in March (March 3rd, to be exact) we got a milk cow. Her name is Rosie and she's a purebred Holstein. Not that she has papers or anything. We got her from the Amish.

It's pretty comical when large milkcows back out of a trailer. Here's a better shot of her:

Wait, now we've got to go back in time a little bit. Before we got Rosie we got Domino. Here's the latest picture we have of him. It's from a few weeks ago.

We also got a sheep who's due to lamb sometime in uhhh... April 2009 I thought. But that's past already so it must have been May 2009.

Then the pigs. Piglet, Trouble and Jefferson. They're a lot bigger now. And Jefferson is scary. He grunts and squeals, etc. I don't know what etc is supposed to mean in this case.

Now the goats. We got the bucks around the same time as Domino but I'm not going to post seperate pictures of them. You'll have to deal with this one. These are just a few of the does, but I like this one best of all the pictures we have of them.

And some of the does have kidded. UG the First (Un-named Goat the First. We have two UGs) dropped (dropped?) three kids in April. Two bucks and a doe.
Then Butterscotch kidded. She had one doe and one buck. The doe was very deformed and died soon after birth. I don't think you want to know the details. Then she wouldn't let the buck eat and as soon as we found out we brought him inside and tried to bottle-feed him. His temp was really low so we put him in a warm bath. He was dehydrated so we injected saline under his skin. Dad dropped an NG tube down his mouth and we gave him electrolytes. After his bath we dried him off and put him in a box under a heat lamp. He died not too long after that. So now Butterscotch has mastitis and Dad and Jacob have been giving her shots. (Dad's been giving shots, Jacob has been helping hold her still.)
So then we had a skittish spotted goat drop her kid. She had one doe. That's it. Then our other skittish spotted goat that's not AS skittish kidded. She also had one doe. Then Peppermint kidded. She had two does! Woo-hoo! It's pretty exciting here. I don't really like goats. I mean, they're okay but they're way too friendly. I just like cows a lot better. But still, I'm enjoying kidding season becuase baby goats are really cute.
Now our party. It was canceled becuase of the rain. So that means no egg toss, no sack races, no BBQ... No dancing. :( It's nice out today, though. The weather never cooperates. Well, I guess that's about all. We had a few families visit us, but no party. It was still really fun and us Bettendorfs learned a new game called Mafia. You could probably look up Mafia Game and it would come up. Unless it was made up by our friends. I don't know becuase I live under a rock. ;)
So yes, we had fun. :D
Are you happy now, Kaylea? :)
Adieu. Adios. Au revoir. Ciao. Cheerio. Shalom. Bye. :) |
