FLYing with a nanny
Ok, I admit it - I'm a flybaby.  It's hard to be a flybaby with twin babies less than 3 months old.  Thankfully I have a nanny to help out with the kids.  Last week, she was asking me what she should do to help clean up around the house, and I was really at a loss as to where she should begin.  Or where I should begin.

A couple weeks ago I checked out Sidetracked Home Executives from the Library, being curious about FlyLady's background and the creators of The Brat Factor website.  Of course, for a whole week I was too sidetracked to even start reading the book!  Well, I finally took my "naptime" on Saturday to read through more than half the book.  Then I decided to start taking their card system onto the computer, and went looking for a CD somewhere in the house that had a program that would work (good luck!)...then searched for free programs online.  Having come up emptyhanded both places, since I wasn't quite sure the programs would do what I wanted them to, I tried Yahoo Calendar.  It took awhile to enter things in (though seeing FlyLady's reminders alongside my schedule helped), but I now have a workable schedule to guide me through the day and help me not to forget things!

And, I even included tasks for my nanny - some of the weekly cleaning jobs I'm not prepared to tackle right now, just a couple each day she's here.  I guess the only thing I haven't specifically scheduled this week is the specifics of our main schooltime - how long and what order the subjects are done in, though they have 2 hours of school scheduled with me each day the nanny is here, with her teaching them another hour or 2 in the afternoon.  The kids don't being told when to do what subject, but like to have a choice - something I understand completely!

I started cleaning up and decluttering in our front room this week, as suggested in the Sidetracked Home Executives book.  WOW!  A few things went to storage, and a lot of the toys in the room remained, and a whole bunch of stuff got put away elsewhere, but 2 big boxes worth of STUFF is set aside to be given away.  I'm starting to be able to dream of redecorating the room as well, getting rid of the yellow curtains the previous homeowners left that I never really did like.  Maybe replacing our front door, which has water damage, and putting in something with decorative glass on the sides.  New carpet and a new sofa would be nice, but I'm sure they would break the budget, so they'll have to go on the long-term wish list.  I like what I'm seeing.  I never thought I would be saying it, but "I'm so proud of me!"
