It was a crazy morning, my sister-in-law's alarm was set wrong so she didn't show up to stay with the kids as we'd expected (not a big deal since they usually come along anyway), and traffic was crazier than usual, so we were 17 minutes late for our appointment with the midwife.I've been concerned and doing research about the Glucose Tolerance Test and was expecting to talk to the midwife about that - my husband requested that we not mention it if no one else did (though I was armed with a folder full of info), so that's what we did - and no one mentioned it. We don't know if they made a mistake before or they simply forgot to order the test....or maybe they realized that the results wouldn't be valid since I'm past the 24-28 week window. I'm pleased to be off the hook but wondering if I'll receive a phone call in the next few days asking/reminding me about it.
The nurse said my blood pressure was good, though the midwife said it was a little high for me (something to keep an eye on) - well, the stress of the morning probably did that. When she was listening for the babies heartbeats (while I was lying on my back) I started to feel faint, and of course my blood pressure had taken a huge dive when they checked it again. My cervix is still closed, but might be thinning. They checked my iron level, which was excellent - about 12.1, if I remember right. My weight was only up 3 pounds instead of my usual 4 - something I attribute to dropping sugar and some extra fat out of my diet.
We took a quick peek on the ultrasound to confirm the heartbeats (they're fine) and were surprised to find that the babies had turned! They had been straight across my belly, one on top of the other, with heads at opposite sides. They've now put their heads together on the upper left side so that they're halfway between transverse and breech. I'm excited since this tells me there's still room for them to shift around and that they're working on getting into the right position. We're hoping to have a ******l delivery (my 3rd VBAC).
I caught a glimpse of the standard protocol for twins - cervix checks every 2 weeks after wk 28, weekly non-stress tests after week 34.... I guess in a month I'll start having weekly visits. My next visit is a double ultrasound with the technician and then the doctor in about 2 weeks. We'll be talking to him about due dates and sizes of babies, since he moved the date up about a week based their large measurements early on. Now, of course, he's singing another tune about how small they are (based on his adjusted due date, of course)!
